Driver faces misdemeanor death by vehicle charge

KANNAPOLIS — Police have charged a 20-year-old driver with misdemeanor death by vehicle in a traffic accident Tuesday afternoon that claimed the life of Carol Smith Davis.

The accident occurred about 2:43 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of North Main and 18th streets on the Rowan County side of the city.

Records at the Rowan County Magistrate's Office Tuesday evening said Amanda Nicole Erickson, the driver of a 2001 Honda. failed to stop at a stop sign, causing the fatality.

Details of the accident were not available Tuesday night from Kannapolis Police.

Officer M.B. Rowland charged Erickson, 20, of 1110 McClain Road with misdemeanor death by vehicle, according to records with the magistrate's office.

She was released on a written promise to appear in court Aug. 28.
