Mark Habeeb was entertaining his in-laws one moment and the next he was outside watching firefighters put out a fire at his home.

Habeeb, his wife, children, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and father-in-law were at the 333 Camelot Drive home Tuesday night when he discovered the fire.

"We smelled smoke and went into a back bedroom. The fire was already there," he said.

Habeeb said there was no one in the room. He could not guess what could've caused the fire, he said.

Fire officials had not determined a cause late Tuesday night. The fire began sometime after 8 p.m.

Salisbury Fire Public Information Officer Chris Kepley said the fire spread to the attic area and other rooms of the house.

"It was difficult getting to the fire because it was in the attic and because of the way the house was designed," she said.

Firefighters put a hole in the roof to ventilate the home. The house also suffered heat and water damage.

The family has lived in the house for 10 years. They all got out of the house safely. Two firefighters were treated at the scene due to the hot weather.

The following agencies responded: Rowan County Rescue Squad and Salisbury City, South Salisbury, Cleveland, Rockwell City, Granite Quarry and Spencer fire departments.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
