Cabarrus Community Health Centers gets federal grant

CONCORD — Congressman Larry Kissell (D-NC8) announced today that Cabarrus Community Health Centers Inc. will receive a Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program grant of $377,820 to help with construction, repair and renovation.

"We are incredibly pleased to see Cabarrus Community Health Centers receive this grant funding," Kissell said. "Community health centers provide a tremendously important service to an underserved part of our communities, those who might not otherwise be able to receive health care. This grant money will continue to help Cabarrus Community Health Center as they serve our community."

The Recovery Act Capital Improvement Program grants are part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act under Department of Health and Human Services. The grant is intended to help purchase new equipment or health information technology systems. More than 1,500 health centers were awarded grants under the CIP announcement.

"As people continue to struggle in this recession, we are seeing such a need for our services and this funding will help us continue to provide those much-needed services to the community," said Representative Jeff Barnhart, CEO of Cabarrus Community Health Centers Inc. "We are so thankful for this funding and it will be put to good use helping people who really need it."

First Lady Michelle Obama announced the release of $851 million in Recovery Act Capital Improvement Programs grants today at Unity's Upper Cardozo Health Center in Washington.
