Two men have been arrested in separate incidents involving drug charges.

Bryan Shondell Solomon, 31, of Cleveland, was charged June 26 with possession with intent to sell cocaine, possession with intent to sell marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest, according to a press release from the Rowan County Sheriff's Department.

Randy Harold Parks, 55, of Kannapolis, was charged June 20 with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to sell marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On June 26, investigators with the sheriff's office and the Cleveland Police Department, searched Solomon's home at 416 E. Main St., Cleveland.

During the search, Solomon tried to flee and was subdued with a Taser. Investigators found 4 grams of powder cocaine with a street value of $400, 22 grams of crack cocaine (street value of $4,400), 906 grams of marijuana (street value of $4,530), $7,651 in cash, a pistol and an AK-47 style assault rifle.

Solomon is in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond, pending a first appearance in court on Monday.

In the other incident, investigators got an anonymous tip on June 4 that Parks was growing marijuana on his property at 305 Copperhead Road, Kannapolis.

Sheriff's deputies asked the N.C. Highway Patrol Air Unit to fly over the area to find the marijuana plants. Six plants were seen growing along the woodline of the property.

Investigators with the Sheriff's Office and Salisbury Police Department found six plants, along with 15 plants growing next to the residence.

Parks was home at the time and admitted the plants belonged to him. Parks consented to a search and investigators found eight bags of marijuana, weighing a total of 239 grams (street value of $1,195), in Parks' freezer. Investigators also found 42 firearms in the house. The 21 plants seized weighed a total of 581 grams (street value of $2,905).

Parks was arrested on June 20. He was placed under a $3,000 secured bond in the Rowan County Detention Center.

Poll
What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
