County commissioners, RCCC leaders to discuss college needs Monday

Future needs of Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will be front and center Monday.

The Rowan County Board of Commissioners will hold a joint meeting with Rowan-Cabarrus Community College leaders for what officials are calling a "strategic conversation."

Statewide, community colleges are working to build support for adequate funding for the college system.

A more local and more immediate topic may also be discussed.

Carl Ford, chairman of the Rowan County Board of Commissioners, said this week there may be a request to establish a satellite school in Cleveland.

Ford said such a project would depend on getting space at no charge from Freightliner.

A possible satellite campus isn't on the published agenda.

Rowan-Cabarrus Community College President Carol Spalding will present an overview.

Nancy Bilson, the college's legislative liaison, will discuss the statewide legislative effort to adequately fund community colleges.

Ray Paradowski, college board chairman, County Manager Gary Page and Ford are also set to participate in the program.

The meeting starts at 3 p.m. Monday on the North Campus, Jake Alexander Boulevard, in Room 251.
