Cub Scouts from around Rowan soak up fun at day camp

Around 90 Cub Scouts are getting a week full of fun and learning as Grace Lutheran Church hosts the annual Rowan County Cub Scout Day Camp.
Cub Scouts from around the county are participating in the week-long event, which will conclude with a program for their parents.
Steve White, camp director, was happy with camp turnout and all the volunteers on hand.
"We've had every kid registered show up." White said.
White is in charge of Pack 373 at Sandy Ridge A.M.E. Zion Church in Landis.
The event includes activities such as making arts and crafts; science, in which the Scouts built bridges out of popsicle sticks; archery and BB-gun shooting; Scout skills and games; and music, in which the Scouts got to make their own instruments.
Different groups moved from station to station.
Amy Frank, a volunteer from Cub Scout Pack 306 at North Hills Christian School, spoke fondly of the event and all the Cub Scouts present.
"There's always a great group of kids." Frank said. "We love day camp. My husband and I have done this for several years. We keep them very busy."
Busy was definitely a word that described all the activities on hand, including the archery and BB station.
Master Deputy Jennifer Mason of the Rowan County Sheriff's Office said she's helped with the BB station for six years.
"I've been at the Sheriff's Office seven years, and I know I've been here every year but the last." Mason said.
Every year that Mason has volunteered, she has helped with the BB range.
"They get to talk about safety and they're learning how to set up the range and set up the targets," she said.
All on hand seemed to be having a wonderful time.
"What a great day." White said.
