A grinding lunchtime wreck in downtown Salisbury ended with four people injured and a Dodge minivan on its side Thursday at the intersection of North Main and Kerr streets.

The injuries were not serious, but Salisbury firefighters had to saw through the van's windshield to extract the driver, Jackie Nunn, who was trapped in the vehicle.

The van had turned onto the driver's side.

Nunn, 34, of Salisbury, was able to stand after being extracted.

The accident occurred about 11:52 a.m.

Salisbury Police Officer Brad Jordan said Nunn's white minivan, traveling south on Main Street, turned left at Kerr Street into the path of a small Chevrolet sedan driven by Shana Wagoner.

Passengers in the Wagoner car included Beverly Alexander, 49, and a 4-year-old girl, who was in the back seat.

Jordan charged Nunn with making an unsafe movement.

He also charged Wagoner with speeding and not using a child restraint for the 4-year-old.

All the people involved in the wreck were examined at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

The wreck forced midday traffic on North Main Street to take detours onto Church and Lee streets.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
