Staff report
A woman drove a car into the front of St. Paul's Lutheran Church around 4 p.m. Thursday.
Her car struck and upended a marble statute or marker adjacent to the steps in the front of the church.
She subsequently got out of the car and went into a wooded area near a picnic table where law enforcement and Rowan EMS personnel were able to talk her out.
Cindy Hinson and her daughter, Samantha, were at the church getting ready for a graduation party at a picnic shelter there. Samantha recently graduated from the N.C. School of Arts and Science.
The Hinsons, members at St. Paul's, were about to set up for the party when the incident happened. Hinson said officers told her to stay in front of the church an not let anybody in.
A Rowan EMS unit transported the woman to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Officers decided to file a property damage report rather than a traffic accident report.
The report was not immediately available.
