The scholarships are made possible through the foundation from individual and business contributions and paid to the college of selection by the recipient. Cory and Crystal are twin siblings of Lori and Eddie Kluttz of China Grove.
Cory, a 2008 honor graduate of Jesse Carson Senior High School in China Grove, was awarded the Citizenship Award and is a sophomore at Catawba College, majoring in music education. Cory is an All-County and All-Conference Tennis Selection and an honor roll member.
His goal is to become a music teacher and a high school band director. He has received scholarships through Catawba College and the Combat Veteran's Scholarship from a family member serving in a combat theater of operation.
Crystal, a 2008 honor graduate of South Rowan Senior High School in Landis, received the Wesley Ives Memorial Award and is a sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, majoring in nursing.
She has been active in high school cheerleading, track and field, and was South Rowan 2007 Miss Merry Christmas. Her goal is to become a nurse specializing in labor and delivery. She has also received previous scholarships through UNCC and the Combat Veteran's Scholarship.
Both students qualified for the North Carolina Education Foundation Awards through their father, who is retired from the North Carolina National Guard.
