Red Cross announces blood donation dates for June

During the busy summer season, the blood supply often suffers. With donors on vacation and preoccupied with other summer activities, collections tend to take a dip.

The Red Cross hopes to avoid a shortage this summer by asking donors to make giving the "Gift of Life" part of their summer plans. It takes 1,600 people each weekday giving blood and platelets to meet hospital demands.

Donors giving at one of the following sites may register to win one of three seven-day cruises for two.

State law now allows 16-year-olds to donate blood. The Red Cross requires that 16-year-olds get signed parental consent before donating blood.
