Driver in skateboard incident turns himself in

A 16-year-old driver has been charged with felony hit and run in a skateboard incident that left another teen hospitalized with serious injuries.

Richard Kesler Meek of 175 Regency Road turned himself in Thursday after an appeal from law enforcement.

According to a report filed by Trooper C.J. Doty of the N.C. Highway Patrol, Meek was the driver of a car that pulled Dillon Scott Kluttz, 16, of 180 Regency Road along Neal Road Wednesday around 3 p.m.

Kluttz was apparently holding on to the spoiler of the car driven by Meek when he fell off the skateboard and tumbled onto the asphalt.

A witness said the car pulling the skateboarder stopped briefly and then left the scene.

Kluttz was taken Carolinas Medical Center-NorthEast in Concord and then transported by medical helicopter to CMC in Charlotte.

Kluttz is in intensive care in fair condition according to a hospital spokesman.

Meek also faces a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving and endangering.

He is set to appear in Rowan County District Court on Tuesday.
