A man blowing a parking lot clean Tuesday morning came face to face with a gunman who demanded his wallet.

The man gave the robber and an accomplice some cash, but kept his billfold.

The victim was cleaning the lot at Waffle House, 936 Jake Alexander Blvd., at about 5:20 a.m. when two suspects approached him from behind and made their demand.

With a pistol pointed at him, the victim backed away and at first told the men no.

But the suspects ran off after taking cash the victim threw on the ground.

"It didn't really scare me," the victim said Wednesday. "But going through my mind, I didn't know if the guy was going to shoot me or not."Salisbury police now are looking for the two suspects, described as young black men about 6 feet tall and 130 pounds. It was too dark to see the men's faces clearly, but both were wearing hoodies and jeans, Salisbury Police Deputy Chief Steve Whitley said.

The victim said he first noticed the two suspects after they walked across the parking lot and into a store across the street.

The man said he was almost finished when one of the suspects called out to him from the back of the parking lot near a dumpster.

"I thought they went on back down the road but then when I got ready to put my blower on the truck, one of them called me," the victim said. "When I turned around he was already pointing a pistol at me."

The two suspects didn't get much cash, the victim said, because he doesn't carry much around with him.Whitley said the man likely was just a victim of opportunity.

"He was in the wrong place at the wrong time," Whitley said. The victim said he'd like to see the two suspects try to rob him again.

"To tell you the truth, I hope I run into them again," the man said. "I'd like to see them try to do it again."Contact Sara Gregory at 704-797-7257 or sgregory@salisburypost.com.

As someone who was robbed at gunpoint on 3rd shift in a well known Salisbury gas station, I can say that the thought of retribution sticks in your head. I was pretty messed up after mine because every time I heard that door ding I whipped my neck around expecting a spectral ghost of a drug addict in camo and black again being a "tough guy" with a gun. When you've had a gun to the back of your skull like this, or to your face, and you have to even ponder if he'll unload the bullets into you, maybe then you will understand and be less judgmental of this victim. I had a wife to worry about if I played the idiot's game and fought back, with the arsenal of weapons under the counter. But, to me, $189 was not worth my life. Going to prison for doing a neck break would not have been good either, considering the punk probably got shot in some robbery down the road when he picked the wrong dude to mess with or double cross. I like to think karma or sheer dumb luck will sort this out for this guy though.

Yes he is a tough guy now because he probably now has a gun himself.

I have eaten at that location many times. I think it's a shame nobody is safe any where these days.

How realistic is it of me to think the average resident of Rowan County can get a carry permit?
