This week wraps up National Police Week, where across the country people honored law enforcement officers for their service. In Salisbury, the community gathered today at First Presbyterian Church to commemorate the fallen.

This year marks the 13th year of the Rowan County Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service that included officers from surrounding towns, family members of those who've passed on and others in the community.

No law enforcement officers died this year in Rowan County and statewide.

However, still fresh on people's minds are the tragic deaths of firefighters Victor Isler and Justin Monroe, who died battling a mill fire in March.

"Two have fallen this year. They wore a badge and a shield. They chose a life to serve. They were Salisbury firemen ... firefighters," said Salisbury Police Chaplain Russell Williams.
