Summer fun: Looking Glass Artist Collective

Looking Glass Artist Collective of Salisbury Inc.

The Looking Glass Artist Collective is set to open July 1 in newly-renovated space at 405 N. Lee St., in the Rail Walk Arts District.

They will be offering a variety of classes and camps during July and August. Summer offerings will include:

Early morning arts

Beginning July 7, arts activities and games will be offered in a supervised instructional setting, for elementary and middle school students, starting at 7:30 a.m.

This opportunity was designed especially to help parents who have to be at work by 8 a.m. and can't get their child to a later morning program. These activities keep the student busily engaged up until time for camp to start at LGAC at 10 a.m.

Staff members will also be available to take students to programs at other downtown locations within walking distance.Hogwarts Summer School

Harry Potter camps

Two sessions: July 7-11 and 14-18 (both sessions are the same), 10 a.m.-3 p.m. For rising fourth-eighth graders.

Bring a bag lunch.

Registration fee of $20, goes toward camp fee of $100.

Participants do not have to have read the books, but (spoiler alert) the books will be discussed.

The week includes classes in herbology, potions, transfiguration, divination and defense, along with visits by special guests.

July 28-Aug. 1. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Bring a bag lunch. $75. Registration fee: $15 (included).

Instruction provided for students of all ages — beginner, intermediate and advanced. Players will be paired for tournament play according to age and ability level.

Lead instructor is a United States Chess Federation Class A player.

Not all time will be spent in front of the chess board. There will be recreation and other games as well.For information contact Sarah Hall, 704-637-7326, sfhall@carolina.rr.com.
