MOORESVILLE — Burglars hit Old Carolina Stone at 265 Pit Road in Rowan County over two consecutive days, taking cash and computers and causing thousands of dollars in damage.

The Rowan County Sheriff's Office reported that someone gained entry into the business by throwing rocks and bricks at a glass window in a door between 6:40 a.m. Thursday and 6:40 a.m. Friday.

In that burglary, a metal cash box with coin trays, $500 in assorted currency, a $40 flashcard and receipts were taken. Damage to the door was $400.

Burglars returned to the business between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 10:47 a.m. Saturday.

This time, they gained entry by removing a metal frame door, and completely ransacked Old Carolina Stone's offices.

Two laptop computers valued at $3,000 were taken, along with a $500 fax machine/printer/copier.

Damages listed included $2,000 to the double-glass, metal frame doors; $100 each to a stone display, office desk and floor lamp; $1,300 to three computers; $500 to two other doors; and $500 to telephone equipment.

Deputy B.S. Watson investigated.

Old Carolina Stone manufactures hand-crafted stone products as a lightweight and more affordable alternative to real stone.

The product is used in residential and commercial projects.
