The Salisbury Fire Department is inviting the public to attend a Disaster Preparedness Education Session from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Wal-mart SuperCenter, 323 S. Arlington St.

If there is bad weather, the event will be held at the Salisbury Fire Department Station No. 1, 514 E. Innes St.

Portions of the educational session will be videotaped and included in the nationally syndicated episode of NASCAR Angels, a reality based television show.

The segment will air later this year in July and September with a third broadcast in 2009.

The disaster preparedness program is free and first arrivals will receive a mini-backpack first aid kit. Attendees also will be eligible for a variety of door prizes, including two disaster preparedness demonstration kits.

"It is imperative that citizens be prepared for emergencies and disaster situations," Salisbury Fire Chief Bob Parnell said. "The Salisbury Fire Department is proud to partner with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the NASCAR Angels organization to provide this educational outreach session.

"By sharing important tips and helpful information with our citizens, we can assist in readying home and car in the event of a disaster."

For more information, contact Battalion Chief Morris at 704-638-5360 or via email at dmorr@salisburync.gov.
