Voter turnout steady in Rowan County

E-mail to a friend

Turnout appears to be steady today at polling places in Rowan County.

“It looks like a good turnout,” said Nancy Evans, director of the Rowan County Board of Elections.

Evans said she didn’t know if Rowan’s turnout would be as high as state officials were predicting for all of North Carolina — 48 percent.

She described today’s pace as “just a normal election day.”

Here are morning totals reported by the Rowan County Board of Elections at several precincts. Listed are the precinct, its location and the number of people who had voted at the stated time:

• North Ward, City Park Recreation Building, 340 voters by 11:45 a.m.

• Bostian Crossroads, Bostian Heights Fire Department, 200 voters by 11:50 a.m.

• Gold Knob, East Rowan High School, 96 voters by 10:45 a.m.

• West Ward I, Rowan Public Library, 136 voters by 11:12 a.m.

• West Ward II, Fire Station 2 on South Main Street, 280 voters by 11:55 a.m.

• North China Grove, China Grove Middle School, 222 voters by noon.

Rowan has 46 precincts. Polls will be open until 7:30 p.m.

I just came from Jackson Park Elementary in Kannapolis, and I was able to walk right in. The ladies also said it's been steady but not crowded all day.

There was a pretty good line at the west ward II polling place. I was one of the 280 that voted before 11:55.
