Sigma Theta Tau

The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Upsilon Mu Chapter) at Cabarrus College of Health Sciences inducted 10 new members during a ceremony on March 18.

Colleen Hole, administrative director for nursing services at CMC-NorthEast was the guest speaker for the ceremony.

New undergraduate members include Sherri Goss, China Grove, and Deanne West, Concord. New community nurse leaders include Lindsay Belden, Cornelius; Suzanne Furr, Concord; Shuna Harper, Mount Holly; Erin Houser, Huntersville; Mary Anne Nolan, Cornelius; Angela Race, Mint Hill; Margaret Saunders, Mount Pleasant; and Lisa Tardo-Green, Huntersville.

Membership in the honor society is by invitation and is extended to undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty and professional nurses who have demonstrated superior scholastic, leadership and nursing achievements.

The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research.

Knox Middle

Knox Middle School National Junior Honor Society had its induction ceremony and reception on March 31.

This is the second year Knox has had an active National Junior Honor Society. The faculty council for the organization includes Sandy Meeks, Carlotta Chambers, Sue Patton, Joan Wooten and Greg Stienbarger. The faculty adviser is Robin Hendrick. Sun Dragas and Kirstin Meyerhoeffer, members of the Salisbury High School National Honor Society, spoke to the newly inducted students.

The criteria for selection into the organization include a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and a show of strength in areas of leadership, citizenship, service and character. Students who applied and were selected for membership include:

Sixth grade — Brooklyn Alexander, Thurston Alexander, Casaundra Allen, Timothy Besmer, Cassidy Brisson, Jeffrey Burton, Megan Chichester, Jada Cuff, Evan Dunn, Tyler Formanek, Maddie Gentry, LaMyron Greene, Jahkarius Hargrove, Asa Hollingsworth, Treasure Hopkins, Venus Johnson, Ryan Jones, Stefan Knorr, Natasha Liles, Riley Myers, Jordan Oglesby, Max Patel, Abraham Post, Katie Queen, Brandon Ralston, Estelle Robinson, Mary Seifert, Daiosha Williams.

Seventh grade — Joshua Billingslea, Kathleen Bourque, Yilda Cardona, Anthony Cataldo, Jeryon Davis, John Daugherty, Christopher Derrick, Susannah Dixon, Elesabeth Galeas, Wakil Harrison, Salem Hockett, Emma Labovitz, Erika Massie, Daesha Morris, Kathleen Mowery, Allison Murphy, Hannah Sunding, T'nequa Watkins, Emalee Young, John Haile Young and Kate Zimmerman.

Eighth grade — Victoria Ancheta, Amber Bledsoe, Jasmine Brawley, Suzana Brborovic, Sydni Cockerham, Greg Davidson, Mary Daja Dozier, Caroline Graham, Kristen Harman, Megan Harman, Ilisha Housch, Luke Hutton, Caleb Johnson, Desirea Jones, Loan Pham and Mason Whitaker.

Cleveland Elementary

Cleveland Elementary won the Rowan County Battle of the Books March 9, defeating 16 other Rowan County Schools.

Members of the team are Mikayla Graham, Carolyn Miller, Peyton Nance, Leyna Pence, Kandice Quarles, Brooke Suddeth, Timothy Wilmot and Emilee Wooten.

It was the first time Cleveland had won first place.
