Students riding Rowan-Salisbury Schools Bus 106 to Knox Middle School Monday morning missed the opening bell.

Darlene Webb of Charlotte, blinded by the sun at the corner of 11th and Richard streets, failed to see the stop sign or the bus. She pulled out into the path of the bus, resulting in damage to the front of her Honda and cutting the left front tire of the school vehicle. Webb was not injured.

Although damage to the bus was minor, the problem with the tire made it necessary for another bus to be dispatched to the scene to transport the students across town to Knox.

School officials notified parents, some of whom drove to the scene of the accident to pick up their children. Although no injuries have been reported, a few parents took their children to the hospital to be evaluated.

What do you think of the legislature putting parts of Rowan County in three different congressional districts and two state Senate districts?
  • I like it; Rowan will have more members of Congress and the state Senate
  • I don't like it; it's hard enough to figure out who my congressman is
  • I don't care about politics, so it makes no difference to me
