The following students qualified for the dean's list for the fall 2008 semester at Davidson County Community College.
A student who has completed at least 12 semester hours of credit and who has achieved a grade point average of at least 3.0 on all work attempted with no incomplete and grade lower than a C is placed on the dean's list.

Spelling bee
Sacred Heart Catholic School held its annual Spelling Bee on Jan. 23.
Eighteen students competed from grades three through eight.
First place winner: Bobby Cardelle, eighth grade; second place winner: Jessica Roy, seventh grade; runner-up: Laney Gokey, eighth grade.
Kay Paul was coordinator and Carole Ball was assistant coordinator.
Cannon School
CONCORD — On Feb. 11 at 7 p.m., Cannon School will hear tips for "Building Healthy Kids" from Dr. Ann Kulze, a nationally-recognized expert on nutrition and healthy living. Her presentation is one part of her daylong visit to Cannon School. She will also go into the classroom to share her insights with students, faculty and staff.
Kulze has provided her expertise in Time Magazine, Women's Health, Prevention, the Charlotte Observer and Family Fun Magazine, and on CNN radio and NPR. Her book, "Dr. Ann's 10-Step Diet," and grocery shopping lists for healthy foods will be available for purchase.
Presidential Scholar
Spencer Catherine Scarvey was named a Presidential Scholar at the University of Georgia for the fall 2008 semester.
To be named a presidential scholar, students must have achieved a grade point average of 4.0 during the preceding semester and have earned at least 14 hours, with a minimum of 12 hours in courses graded A-F.
A genetics major with an interest in pharmacy as a career choice, she is an active participant in the Honors Program at UGA and holds a Charter Scholarship. She is the sister of Quinn Scarvey and the daughter of Dave and Katie Scarvey of Salisbury.
