Girls basketball: Salisbury stays tied for first place

LEXINGTON — Another double-double for Bryanna Troutman and another win for the Salisbury girls.

Troutman had 16 points and 12 rebounds as the Hornets won at Central Davidson, 50-33, in  Thursday’s Central Carolina Conference makeup game.

The victory was the fifth in a row for the Hornets (15-2, 12-1 CCC) and kept them tied for first place with Ledford. Ledford romped against Lexington, 64-34, on Thursday, while third-place East Davidson (16-2, 10-2) also stayed in the thick of the race by beating West Davidson, 50-42. Salisbury still has games left with Ledford (home, Jan. 30) and East Davidson (road, Feb. 2).

Salisbury’s only league setback was to fourth-place South Rowan. Salisbury’s other loss this season was to South in the Moir Christmas tournament.

Salisbury grabbed control of the game by outscoring the Spartans, 21-9, in the second quarter to take a 37-19 halftime lead. Coach Lakai Brice used everyone on the roster in the second half.

Troutman stuffed the stat sheet for five blocks, four steals and four assists, while Anayia Fulson had 10 points, seven assists, five rebounds and four steals. Maria Capito scored 13 points, pushing her career total past 900. Tacorra Robinson had eight points and five rebounds. Lexi May made a 3-pointer.

Mikayla Sink scored 14 for Central Davidson (5-12, 3-10).

Salisbury is home tonight against last-place Oak Grove. The Grizzlies will visit the historic Salisbury gym for the first time.
