Thanks to all who made Veterans Day great

This past Veterans Day was a magnificent tribute to the vets who are serving and the ones that have served. It has been fantastic the way that the merchants in downtown Salisbury and Rowan County have given discounts for this special day to let the veterans know how much we appreciate each and every one of them.

A restaurant actually gave an entree free to every vet on this special day. Please remember, a free entree is equivalent to a 50 percent discount and that is absolutely a great price. Being a six-year veteran (four active and two inactive), I am most appreciative of the discount, and I would never ask anyone to lose money so that I would get a better price.

Thanks to all the veterans who are serving and to the ones who have served. And also, a very big thanks to all who participated in making Veterans Day so wonderful.

Thanks for all the help with cards

I was so delighted to see the business page articles about Comfort Keepers and Gentiva Health Services. I have received services from both organizations for several years now and the employees there certainly deserve recognition and my thanks.

I also would like to thank everyone who has helped with new cards, cards to recycle, or homemade cards. We sent over 11,800 cards this year to our servicemen. I have often been asked how long I plan to do this and my hope is to continue indefinitely, but the cost of envelopes and mailing continues to increase. Anyone who hopes to see this continued can certainly help with the purchase of envelopes. If you are interested, call 704-278-9355 or email me at lindainthecards@gmail.com. I give thanks everyday for all the love and support from my family, friends, and readers of my stories.

Too many tests

I believe there are too many tests in school today. I do not know why we have tests virtually every day. It takes a lot of time and effort to study for these tests. It takes a lot of time to finish each one as well. I wish that we would have fewer tests every week in school. One way to do that is that we could take more or different types of notes in school so that we don’t have to take as many tests. We could also do oral exams that show we have an understanding of the subject.
