The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that is reported to have taken place on Foster Road late Tuesday.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the 3800 block of Needmore Road in Woodleaf Tuesday at 9 p.m. The resident of the house said that no one was shot there, but that her two sons, Daquon and Ronnie Martin, dropped by earlier and asked to use her cell phone to call 911. While Daquon Martin was on the phone with 911, the woman overheard him saying that Ronnie Martin had been shot. After that, Daquon Martin decided to drive Ronnie to Davis Hospital in Iredell County.

The Sheriff’s Office reported in the release that the mother did not seem very concerned about the shooting, and was not fully cooperative with the deputies.

Deputies determined that the shooting may have occurred at the 6000 block of Foster Road, and drove out to investigate. There, they met Daquon Martin, who had just arrived back at his residence. Daquon told deputies that he was away from home when his brother called him to “hang out.” Daquon Martin was driving home when he saw Ronnie Martin in the 5900 block of Foster Road. Ronnie told Daquon he had been shot.

Daquon Martin did not provide any other details to investigators.

Ronnie Martin was taken to Davis Hospital and then transported to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The Sheriff’s Office reports he is in good condition.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information should call Detective Rodney Mahaley at 704-216-8711, or First Lieutenant Chad Moose at 704-216-8687.
