Trinity Presbyterian

Trinity Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Caldwell St., will celebrate its 148th church anniversary on Sunday at an afternoon service at 3 p.m.

The speaker for the occasion will be Rev. Herbert Hill, Sr., pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church, USA in Kannapolis. He was educated in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and a 1981 graduate of Garringer High School. He received his bachelor of science in accounting from Johnson C. Smith University in 1986 and in 1989 he received his masters of divinity from Johnson C. Smith Seminary, in Atlanta, Ga.

In addition to serving as a pastor, he has been employed at J. H. Gunn Elementary School as a cafeteria manager for the last 14 years.

Since January of 2015, he has been the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church.

 

2015 Youth Conference

The Youth and Congregation of Word of Life Family Worship Center hosts the 2015 Youth Conference today and Sunday. This year’s theme is “Youth on a Mission: It’s Our Time.” Today from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. there will be an Outdoor Fun in the Sun Celebration with games and food for all ages, followed at 6 p.m. with a talent show and an open discussion panel.

Sunday during the 10 a.m. service, the Children’s Church graduation will be held with guest speaker the Rev. Jayson Sloan, youth pastor of Generation One, a youthful extension of St. Peter’s Church & World Outreach Center in Winston-Salem.

Mount Tabor Summer Playlist series

Family & Friends day at Fairview Heights

Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church will host Friends and Family Day on Sunday during the 11 a.m. service. The Rev. Clarence E. Marlin is host pastor.

 

Scottish music at First Presbyterian

During the 11 a.m. service this week First Presbyterian Church-Salisbury welcomes Scottish Highland piper Dave McKenzie. Dave will help lead the service through his musical talents. There will be bagpipe solos as well as selections for pipes and organ.

 

Guest speaker at Emmanuel Baptist

Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2300 Bringle Ferry Road, will welcome Rev. Richard Gross as guest speaker on Sunday at the 11 a.m. service and the 6 p.m. evening service.

 

Lilly’s Chapel honors Clawson Sunday

Lilly’s Chapel Church of God, 618 W. Thomas St., will have a pre-anniversary service for co-pastor Dr. Doris Clawson on Sunday at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Minister Julia Walker, co-pastor of Rose of Sharon Church of God of Salisbury.

 

St. Luke Baptist celebrates homecoming

St. Luke Baptist Church on Hawkinstown Road will celebrate homecoming and revival beginning on Sunday. The homecoming will begin at 3 p.m. and lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m. The speaker for homecoming is The Rev. Cory Graves of White Oak Grove Baptist Church in Greensboro. Revival speaker is the Rev. Dr. Claude Forehand of First Baptist Church in Kannapolis. Services for the revival are July 20-23 and will begin at 7 p.m. nightly.

The Rev. Dr. Forehand is an alumni of Johnson C Smith and Hood Theological Seminary with both M. Div. and D. Min. degrees.

 

Ellis to deliver trial discourse 

CLEVELAND — Quinta Ellis will deliver her Trial Discourse on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church. Quinta is the daughter of Reggie Holmes and Margaret Ellis and the granddaughter of Mary Holmes of Lexington and James (Pete) and Helen Ellis of Woodleaf. She is a 2004 graduate of West Rowan High School, a 2009 graduate of UNC Pembroke with a bachelor of science in history and sociology. Quinta has been awarded a full scholarship to attend Mercier University of Atlanta Ga. where she will pursue a dual masters degree in master of divinity and organizational leadership for non-profit.

 

Women’s Day at Mt. Vernon Presbyterian

Women’s Day will be observed on Sunday at 3 p.m. Evangelist Lakeisha Parker from Shepherd Church of God in Mooresville will be the speaker. The Presbyterian Women’s theme for 2015 is “Celebrating the Bond Between Young and Senior Women in God’s Household.” Musical selections will be rendered by Desirae and Deanna Culbertson. Lunch will be served prior to the program.

 

Third Creek usher board celebrates

The Usher Board of Third Creek AME Zion Church will celebrate its 18th anniversary on Sunday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Zacharias Allen Sr. of Providence AME Zion Church will render the service.

Dinner will be served at 1:30 p.m. in the Glenn G. Grayson Fellowship Hall.

The Rev. Harold Jordan is the host pastor.

The Men’s Ministry of Solid Rock Church of God, 1004 Locke St., will celebrate Men’s Day on Sunday at 4 p.m. The Rev. Nasby Mills Jr., pastor of Progressive Outreach Ministry, is the guest preacher. Barry McGee at Lyerly

Rockwell — Lyerly Evangelical Churc h, 1320 Crescent Road, will host Barry McGee, Christian comedian/evangelist, at 6 p.m. on Sunday. McGee is three-time Comedian of the Year with Inspirational Country Music Association and Comedian of the Year with the International Country Gospel Music Association. A free-will offering will be received. Unity & Praise CD release celebration

On Saturday, July 18 (today) at 5 p.m., local singing ministry Unity & Praise will host a CD release celebration which will include performances by Jeremy Kirkpatrick and Friends, Echoes for Christ, Messengers for Christ as well as Mike White and Nu Revelations. Homecoming events at Southern City

EAST SPENCER — Southern City Tabernacle AME Zion Church, 940 S. Long St., will celebrate homecoming the week of July 20-25. Revival services will be held beginning Monday with the Rev. Jimmy Griffin of New Jersey AME Zion Church; Tuesday, the Rev. James Milton of Pleasant Grove AME Zion Church and Wednesday, the Rev. Dairl Scott Jr. of Union Chapel AME Zion Church. Services will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, Inland Point Seafood will cater the summer fish fry beginning at 11 a.m. The cost is $10. On Saturday, the second annual City Classic Golf Tournament will be held at McCanless Golf Course from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $200 per team. Captain’s Choice is the format.

Culminating the celebration is the 11 a.m. homecoming service on Sunday with guest speaker Rev. Dr. Debra Hall of New Hope AME Zion Church. Lunch will be served afterwards.

 

Grace UMC offers Mom’s morning out

Grace United Methodist Church will offer a Mother’s Morning Out on Wednesday, July 22 from 9 a.m.- noon. Memorial UMC adds accompanist 

KANNAPOLIS — Memorial United Methodist Church, 1100 West C St.,  announces the addition of Don Simmons as accompanist. Simmons is a native of Kannapolis and graduated from Northwest Cabarrus High School. He began playing the piano when he was eight; the organ when he was 14. He majored in music UNC Chapel Hill. Since returning to Kannapolis from Illinois in 2001, he worked in two public schools and served as the music director at First Presbyterian in Kannapolis.
