The City of Salisbury is now accepting applications for the 2015 class of the Salisbury Citizens Academy, a 10-week academy highlighting city operations.

The Salisbury Citizens Academy will be held on Thursday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. beginning Sept. 10 and ending with graduation Nov. 5. Classes will meet at different city facilities and a program agenda, with locations, can be found on the city’s website at www.salisburync.gov/citizensacademy

Participants will receive a hands-on, inside view of city operations, including a greater understanding of how and why Salisbury provides its municipal services, such as how clean water is delivered to homes and how the Fire Department decides what trucks respond to certain calls.

Mayor Paul Woodson said, “Last year’s Citizen’s Academy was really well received by everyone who participated. I think members of the class were as excited to learn about our operations as we were to share it with them. Several of the members have been appointed to our boards and commissions, and it is exciting to see our citizens get involved in our city.”

Applications are available online at www.salisburync.gov/citizensacademy, by contacting the clerk’s office at 704-638-5224, or by email at mhear@salisburync.gov. Class size is limited to 20 participants and all applications must be received by July 17. Participants must be at least 16 years of age and priority will be given to residents of Salisbury.
