The Tenth Annual Teens With A Mission Splash Run and Walk 5K for First Presbyterian Church, one of Salisbury’s most popular races, will kick off at 8 p.m. on Friday night, June 5. The course is one of the fastest in Salisbury, starting on Fisher Street and winding through the historic areas of Fulton Street and Fulton Heights. A fun run for kids, 12 and under, will precede the 5K.

Teens With A Mission is a service organization for 9-12th graders that began 25 years ago at First Presbyterian. The TWAM 5K is the principle fundraiser for the group that regularly travels out of the country during their summer mission trips. Their past trips have included such locations as Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica as well as many sites nationwide. The groups also regularly works at Rowan Helping Ministries.

This year, for the first time, the Salisbury Fire Department will set up a Wall of Water that will allow participants, if they desire, to get very wet. Each runner/walker will get a Dri-fit T-shirt and refreshments following the event. The popular hammer awards will go to age group winners in 13 age groups for males and females.

Overall winners, male and female, will win dinner and two tickets to a downtown production. The TWAM 5K is part of Salisbury’s First Friday when many of the downtown shops and restaurants will be open late.

The Badin Triathlon will once again be held on Badin Lake and the surrounding roads and streets on Saturday morning, June 6. Registration and packet pickup will be held early that morning at the Badin Lake Landing in downtown Badin.

Competitors will swim 750 yards, bike 13.5 miles and then run 3.1 miles before finishing back near the lake landing. Swimmers go in the water two at a time and there is no crowding at the start. Swimmers are seeded by time.

Competitors will be grouped and scored by age group. Teams are also eligible and compete against each other with one person swimming, another biking and still another running. A special competitive group will be scored with all males 220 pounds and over and with females at 165 pounds and over.

Start time for the triathlon is 8 a.m. and a fun run will be held at 10 a.m.

Online registration continues at www.sportoften for both events. A printable race brochure is also available at www.salisburyrowanrunners.org
