Salisbury Pride Festival begins June 14

The 5th annual Salisbury Pride Festival is in June. The weeklong festival runs from June 14 to June 20 and celebrates the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Community, but everyone is invited and encouraged to attend the events. Thousands of people have attended the festival in recent years.

Schedule of the week’s events:

• Sunday, June 14: A Salisbury Pride Drag Brunch will be held at Sweet Meadow Cafe on North Main Street from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. There will be music and entertainment. A $10 donation is requested.

• Monday: Bowling with Pride at Woodleaf Lanes at 1811 Jake Alexander Boulevard, beginning at 6 p.m. Price is the cost of bowling.

• Tuesday: Drag Bike Ride. Dress up in your best dress and mustache and ride your bike around town to show off your pride. Wigs, knickers, tails and ties are welcome too. Riders will meet at 6 p.m. at Skinny Wheels Bike Shop at 111 W. Innes St.

• Wednesday: Rainbow Run Fun — an “easy” 5k walk/run that starts in the parking lot across from the Rowan County Library on West Fisher Street. 6:30 p.m. is the start time.

• Thursday: Drinks with Dorothy at Literary Bookpost on South Main Street from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Beer and wine will be served.

• Friday: Del Shores at Norvell Theatre on the corner of  South Lee  and East Fisher streets from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.  The American playwright, actor and writer will be on hand for an evening of entertainment. Tickets are $25 or $50 for VIP and can be ordered at www.salisburypride.com . VIP ticket holders can meet Del after the show.

• Saturday: The festival concludes with an all day celebration downtown on Lee and Fisher streets. At 10 a.m., there will be a Doggie Drag Show with entertainment, awards, dancing and food. The night will conclude with a Drag Show at Firehouse Brew Pit on South Lee Street.
