Area Sports Briefs: East, South Y offer programs

The South Rowan YMCA will offer two basketball camps this summer, and a shooting clinic.

The camps will be instructed by Damien Argrett, a former South Rowan, and Pfiffer College player. Argett also played professional basketball overseas and manages camps in Mooresville and surrounding areas.

The first session of camps run June 15-18, and second session is August 10-13.  They are scheduled daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Enrolling in the camp costs $90 for YMCA members and $100 for potential members. There is a $10 discount if you sign up for first session before June 1, and before Aug. 1 for the second session.

Participants will receive a T-shirt, snack and lunch.

A shooting clinic will be July 13-15 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost for the shooting clinic is $65 for members and $75 for potential members.

Adult Indoor Softball sign-ups

Indoor softball is a fast-paced game that puts a different spin and is full of fun and excitement. The league is open to all men and women at least 18 years old.

The registration is going on from now to June 6 with a cost of $250 per team.

Game are Monday and Tuesday evenings at the East Rowan YMCA. The season gets under way June 15. There are 10 games  in a season and a postseason tournament.

There is a coaches meeting at 7 p.m. June 9.
