Blue Bears deserved better from the Post

Congratulations to Livingstone College Blue Bears on your second consecutive CIAA Championship win.

I am sorry that our fine Salisbury Post chose a crime statistic graphic for their front page over your dynamic performance. Oh, I forgot; the Post did manage to print a very small article about you in the corner next to the very bold headlined article about Catawba College’s great loss including a very nice color picture, not only on page 1B, but on pages 2B and 3B.

Wow can it be more obvious? When will we wake up and realize the injustice that is being done in our community through narrow minded acts like this?

Livingstone and Catawba colleges are our hometown institutes, and both have produced some talented and professional leaders in this small town. It is so disrespectful for the Post not to acknowledge Livingstone College with the same gusto.

Blue Bears, keep your head held high for a job well done; you deserve it. You will receive your glory, but it won’t come from the Salisbury Post unless perhaps you do something negative.

Salisbury

Crime raises questions

In the March 1 article “Crime trends, what the numbers show,” it states that over a five-year span, Salisbury has had more violent crimes than Concord, Kannapolis, Lexington or Albemarle.  It also states that Salisbury had the second-highest number of property crimes for the five-year period, with an increase of 3.16 percent.

If you look a little deeper you will see where the problem lies, and that is with the chief of police and city council members. Chief Collins offers empty excuses, including people coming off I-85 just to commit a crime in Salisbury. Seriously!

Ask yourself these questions: What year did Rory Collins become chief of police?  How many experienced police officers have left since Collins became chief, and why have so many been lost to other law enforcement agencies? What is the average years of service of the officers who are currently employed in Salisbury? How many officers have been wrongly dismissed by Chief Collins? And how many lawsuits has the city of Salisbury had filed against them?  City Council needs to wake up and realize that the real crime in Salisbury could be their allowing Rory Collins to remain chief of police.
