Rowan authorities are investigating after a man reported being assaulted with a flashlight Friday afternoon in the 300 block of Sand Road, Rockwell. No arrests have been made, but the incident occurred over the theft of a four-wheeler.

Rowan dispatchers received several calls for a disturbance on Sand Road regarding a man being chased down the road by men in a white pickup. The truck was located on Tobas Road with four males inside.

A deputy did not locate a flashlight or any other weapons other than a pocketknife, a report said.

Two of the four men appeared to be out of breath and looked disheveled, an official said.

One of the men told the deputy someone stole his four-wheeler and he was told it was at a home in Stallings in Union County. He went to the home to retrieve the ATV from someone who said he’d bought it from a man on Sand Road.

Authorities said it seemed as though a fight occurred, but the men said they lost the person they were chasing. The victim who was hit with the flashlight had a cut to head. He was actually involved in chasing the other man, the report said.
