School board to tackle policy updates Monday

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education plans to push ahead in its goal to update its policy manual at Monday’s meeting.

The agenda is primarily made up of second reads on 12 different polices, ranging from environmental sustainability to student discipline.

The board will discuss and potentially approve the following policies: Environmental Sustainability Policy, Alternative Learning Programs/Schools Policy, Use of Wireless Communication Devices, Student Discipline Records Policy, Long-Term Suspension, 365-Day Suspension, Expulsion Policy, Student Discipline Hearing Procedures Policy, Disruptive Behavior Policy, Student Dress Code Policy, Drugs and Alcohol Policy, Assaults, Threats, and Harassment, Criminal Behavior Policy and Environmental Sustainability Policy.

April Kuhn, executive director of administration and legal services, will continue discussing the updated code of conduct draft.

Each of the districts’ schools will receive school performance grades in February, and Director of Assessment and Accountability Dr. Chaunte Garrett will go over the changes to this year’s grades.

Chairman Josh Wagner will go over the budget planning process and central office questions.

Eisa Cox, executive director of secondary education, will update the board on the district’s high school guidebook.

The board will meet Monday at 5 p.m. at its Long Street administrative office, 110 South Main Street in East Spencer.
