David Leasure served as the race starter on Saturday morning as 100 runners and walkers came to North Rowan High School to support him in his battle with cancer. A warming sun helped raise temperatures enough to improve conditions for the race and Leasure cheered for all the participants as they crossed the finish line. Proceeds from the race will go toward Leasure’s medical bills and to support Relay for Life.

Phillip Straight was the winner for the second year in a row, this time with a clocking of 18 minutes and 34 seconds. Melissa Orr was the top female with a time of 21 minutes and 46 seconds.

Fun run winners were Owen Suneson, Savannah Suneson and Natalie Greene.

Major sponsors for the event included Cloninger Ford-Toyota, Nathan and Denise Peele, Scott and Teresa Weant and Roger and Lydia Hardy, in memory of Joyce Poteat Weant, Office Depot and Ralph Baker Shoes.
