EAST SPENCER — The town will have a meeting today to discuss its plans for the proposed renovations to Royal Giants Park. The meeting will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. at town hall, 105 S. Long St.

Residents who attend the public meeting will hear about the plans, which include a splash park, corn hole courts, more picnic tables and shelters as well as walking trails.

Town officials have said they are in the process of applying for grants to help with upgrades to the park. The town has acquired $116,000 of the needed $300,000 in match money for a grant through the Parks and Recreation Trust Fund. The $116,000 was awarded to the town by the Robertson Family Foundation.

Part of the plan includes creating a new access road into the park since the current entrance at Robinson Road cuts through the middle of the park.

Mayor Barbara Mallett has said the town also has an idea to use a vacant building at the park for a health-care facility. Mallett has long advocated for such a facility in East Spencer.
