Published 12:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Andrew Thomas Head Jr. 62, of 411 Elm St., Granite Quarry, died this morning following a single-vehicle collision. Head and his wife, Linda, were traveling on North Main Street (Old 80) toward Faith Road when he slumped over the wheel.
Linda Head grabbed the wheel and the 1998 Mazda pickup continued through the intersection, passed a stop sign and struck the front porch of a house at 1519 Faith Road.
Salisbury Police Capt. Shelia Lingle said the pickup missed hitting a guywire and telephone pole. When emergency personnel arrived, Head had already died. He was pronounced dead by emergency personnel at the scene, Lingle said.
Linda Head had very minor injuries, including a cut to her head. She was not taken to the hospital, but treated at the scene. Lingle said it does not appear the wreck caused his death.
