This week’s Athlete of the Week is East Rowan running back Calvin Edwards.

Edwards had career highs in rushing yards (200) and touchdowns in a game (three) as he led East to a 47-14 win over South Rowan. The victory kept the Mustangs undefeated in the North Piedmont Conference at 5-0, setting up a first-place showdown at Statesville on Friday.

Edwards, the county’s leading rusher, scored his first touchdown on a 3-yard run in the first quarter. He added a 67-yard dash in the third and a 45-yard scamper in the fourth quarter.
