Kindergarten students at Hanford Dole Elementary School paraded around the school Friday, showing off the “vehicles” they made with their parents as part of a transportation unit all the classes studied.
Besides visiting the N.C. Transportation Museum in Spencer, the kindergarten classes read stories about different forms of travel, wrote their own stories and incorporated lessons about measurement, social studies and participating as community helpers.
Each student also was assigned the task of building a vehicle. “This project provided the perfect opportunity to get families involved in the learning process,” officials at the school said.
In the three years the kindergarten teachers have been using the transportation unit, students have created firetrucks, cars, airplanes, ambulances, police cars and even a space ship.
On Friday, they joined in a parade around the school.
