RALEIGH — The N.C. Sports Hall of Fame will enshrine seven at the 39th annual induction ceremonies in Raleigh on May 15, including former Rowan Legion baseball coach Joe Ferebee.
Other 2002 inductees include baseball pitcher Tony Cloninger, football stars Carlester Crumpler and Doug Wilkerson, basketball coaching greats Terry Holland and Jerry Steele and NBA star Dominique Wilkins.
Ferebee is a Mocksville native who coached baseball for 41 years in high school, American Legion, and Pfeiffer College. He lettered in three sports at Catawba College.
Ferebee’s Salisbury American Legion teams were state champions four times and won 27 area and league titles. He won 694 games as American Legion coach in 32 years.
In 31 years at Pfeiffer, his teams won 10 Carolinas Conference crowns, was Coach of the Year five times.
The baseball field at Pfeiffer is named for him.
The N.C. Sports Hall of Fame, with 201 members, was established in 1963 and is housed in the N.C. Museum of History in Raleigh.
- Golf tourneys set for Corbin Hills
Two golf tournaments will be held this weekend at Corbin Hills Club.
The annual Spring Two-Man Mulligan event will be played Saturday and Sunday. Each round will begin at 8:30 a.m.
Teams will be flighted after the first round, and prizes will be awarded to the top finishing team in each flight.
The Mark Wilhelm Tournament will be held Saturday, starting at 1:30 p.m.
A captain’s choice format will be used. Prizes will be awarded.
- Catawba baseball drops doubleheader
Catawba fell 12-3 and 8-2 in a baseball doubleheader against No. 6 Kennesaw State on Wednesday.
The teams will conclude the three-game series today at 3 p.m. The game can be heard over the internet through the Kennesaw State Athletic Website.
- Catawba lacrosse gets victory
BALTIMORE, Md. — Mike Delabar scored at the 1:38 mark of overtime to lift Catawba College to an 11-10 win over Bentley in men’s lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon. on the campus of
Catawba is 3-2.
- Sacred Heart ties with Corriher-Lipe
Corriher-Lipe and Sacred Heart fought to a 1-all tie in girls soccer on Thursday.
Arielle Dillenback scored for the Yellow Jackets, while Kaitlyn Cuevas had the Sacred Heart goal.
Standouts included Ashley Cline for Corriher-Lipe and Cathryne Clark and Susie Wear for Sacred Heart.
- Knox girls soccer rolls over Erwin
Kayla Leonard scored two goals and Caitlyn Knight, Lindsey Davis, Faron Brazis and Jill Klutz scored one apiece for the Trojans in a 6-0 girls soccer romp over Erwin.
Jamie Dagenhart, Rebekah Lippard, Davis and Leonard had assists.
- Robinson hands loss to West softball
West Rowan’s girls softball team lost its first game of the season 1-0 to Jay Robinson on Thursday.
Blair Harkey had West’s only hit.
- Baseball tryouts set for Saturday
Rowan baseball tryouts will be held this Saturday at the Salisbury Community Park on Hurley School Road.
Tryouts for A-League Little League (ages 11-12) will be from 9-11a.m.
B-league Little League (ages 8-10) will have tryouts from 3-5 p.m.
Coach-pitch T-ball (ages 5-8) will be from 10 a.m.-noon.

- South pitching camp on March 23
South Rowan High assistant Thad Chrismon will conduct a Pitcher/Parent baseball camp at South on Saturday, March 23, from 8 a.m. until noon.
The camp is for players ages 8-13 and parents.
The camp will focus on learning proper pitching mechanics and will include a lecture by former UNC hurler Chrismon.

- Softball sign-ups extended
Registration has been extended for girls coach-pitch (ages 8-10) and girls fast- pitch (ages 11-13) softball Leagues sponsored by Salisbury Parks and Recreation.
Teams will play on Mondays and Thursdays (fast-pitch) and on Tuesdays and Fridays (coach-pitch).
Leagues begin play in April at the Salisbury Community Park and Athletic Complex.

The Salisbury Parks & Recreation Department and the Salisbury Rowan Runners Club invite everyone to come out and walk on the Salisbury Greenway.
The supervised walking program is designed to promote good health, exercise and socialization.
Program runs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Walk starts at 5:30 and begins in the gym parking lot at Knox Middle School.
Participants are asked to bring water and wear clothing and shoes that are comfortable.
