SPENCER — McKenzie Willoughby pitched and slugged Davie County to an 8-3 nonconference baseball win over North Rowan on Wednesday.
Willoughby drove in two runs and pitched five strong innings as the War Eagles improved to 2-0.
Andrew Daywalt worked the last two innings to earn a save.
Cody Wright and Doug Smith had back-to-back doubles in the third as the War Eagles snapped a 1-all tie and went ahead to stay.
North scored in the second on consecutive singles by Keith Cauble, Bubba Morris and Weaver Kesler and in the fourth when Blake Nichelson’s two-run triple plated Brett Mulkey and
Kesler.
North, still without star Aaron Rimer, made seven errors and dropped to 0-3, but coach Bill Kesler found some positives.
“Jimbo (Davis) swung the bat better and three of our pitchers (Brandon Doby, Aaron Corby and Stephen Johnston) threw the ball well,” he said.
This was North’s only game this week.

South Rowan’s jayvee baseball team beat West Rowan 7-1 on Wednesday for its third straight victory.
Daniel Moore tossed a three-hitter, while Daniel Crosby and Brett Shore had two hits each.
In earlier contests, South routed A.L. Brown 13-3 and Northwest Cabarrus 12-2.
- Green Dragons drop 3-2 decision to Ledford
Ledford beat West Davidson 3-2 on Wednesday in baseball.
Zach Ritchie was the winning pitcher for the Panthers.
Logan O’Neill took another tough loss for the Green Dragons (1-3). Adam Self went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace West’s offense.
