Myrtle Alford
CAYCE, S.C. — Myrtle K. Swicegood Alford, 88, Cayce, died Wednesday (March 6, 2002).
A native of Salisbury, N.C., Mrs. Alford was a daughter of the late Jacob Wesley and Annie Belle Cranford
Kepley. A resident of Cayce since 1959, she retired from Berry’s on Main.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and was active with Order of the Eastern Star and Cayce Garden Club. She was a former member of St. Andrew’s Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hoyle Swicegood, and her second husband, William C. Alford.
Survivors include son Stephen Swicegood, Cayce; sister Ida McIntosh, Salisbury, N.C.; and brothers Homer and Bill
Kepley, both of Salisbury, N.C.
Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Main Street United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Mickey Bell and Dr. Cheryl Rhodes. Burial, 4 p.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, Salisbury, N.C.

Marvin Ray Bowman, 63, Salisbury, died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.

Mollie Bailey Brown
EAST SPENCER — The funeral will be Saturday for Mollie Cain Bailey Brown, 90, 5369 Bedfordshire Ave., Harrisburg, formerly of East Spencer, who died Monday (March 4, 2002) at her home after a period of declining health.
Born Dec. 23, 1911, in Rowan County, Mrs. Brown , a daughter of the late Baxter and Annie Holt Cain, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
She was a retired nurse. A member of Jerusalem Baptist Church, she was named Mother of the Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Brown; a son, John Bailey; and a daughter, Barbara
Jimerson.
Survivors include sons Robert Lewis Bailey, Salisbury; daughter Ruth Gilmore, Harrisburg; sister Catherine mason, New
Kensington,Pa.; 15 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Jerusalem Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Bracken. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of son Robert Bailey, 209 W. 11th St., Salisbury.

LEXINGTON — Shirley Maxine Wade Burch, 73, Mount Vista Health Park, Denton, formerly of Valiant Road, died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) after an extended illness.

A memorial service will be held Saturday for Eddie H.Collins, 73, formerly of Bethania Station Road, Winston-Salem, who died Monday (Feb. 25, 2002) at Autumn Care Nursing Home, Mocksville.

Willie Mae ‘Bill’ Cruse
The funeral will be Saturday for Willie Mae “Bill” Murray Cruse, 82, 607 N. Green St., who died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) at Genesis Eldercare after six months of serious illness.
Born April 26, 1919, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Cruse, a daughter of the late Odell and Carrie White Murray, was educated in the Cabarrus County schools. She was a retire domestic worker.
A member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, she was a former Sunday school teacher.
Her husband, Otha Cruse, died in 1991; son Nathan Cruse died in 1960; and son Tate Cruse died in 1983. She was also preceded in death by a grandson in 1998.
Survivors include sons Timmy Cruse, Mount Pleasant, and Otha and Melvin Cruse, both of Salisbury; daughters Betty Broadie and Verna Polk, both of Concord, Brenda Robertson, Salisbury, Rosena Cruse, Brown Mills, N.J., and Abby Gail
Rivens, Davidson; sister Pearlie Latney, Washington, D.C.; 21 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

William T. Daniel
KANNAPOLIS — William Toombs “Bill” Daniel, 84, formerly of Sharpe Avenue, died Tuesday (March 5, 2002) at Transitional Health Services after two years of declining health.
Born Feb. 7, 1918, in Madison County, Ga., Mr. Daniel was a son of the late Toombs Russell and Evie Delree Carithers Daniel. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Retired from Cannon Mills plant 1 cutting room, he was a member and deacon at Centerview Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Brooks Daniel; and sons Richard, Larry and Jackie Daniel.
Survivors include daughter Shirley D. Mauney, Shelby; son Ronald B. Daniel, Kannapolis; brothers Mauldin Daniel, Kannapolis, and
J.W. Daniel, Spring Hill, Fla.; sisters Kathleen Daniel, Lucille Allen, Jewell Campbell and Hazel Reynolds, all of Kannapolis, and Ruth Fortson, China Grove; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

KANNAPOLIS — Robin Morrow Fink, 41, 905 Marie Ave., died Monday (March 4, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a number of years of declining health.
Born Feb. 13, 1961, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Fink was a daughter of Phyllis J. Douglas, Kannapolis, and the late Larry Wayne Morrow.

Purvis,Kannapolis; son David Brett Eason, of the home; and brother Richard W. Morrow, Salisbury.

Emma Hopkins Forte
ALBEMARLE — Emma Lucille Hopkins Forte, 86, 37519 Barnhardt Road, died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) at Stanly Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 11, 1915, in Stanly County, Mrs. Forte was a daughter of the late John Daniel and Jane Blalock Hopkins. She was a retired beautician.
A son, Robert A. Forte Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include husband Robert Aleck Forte; daughter Victoria Forte Drye and Jane Forte Medlin, both of Albemarle, and Rita Forte
Lomax, Richfield; son John Daniel Forte, Richfield; sister Velma Cranford, Albemarle; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Louise G. Hammer
MOCKSVILLE — Louise Green Hammer, 84, formerly of County Home Road, died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) at Autumn Care of Mocksville.
Born Oct. 27, 1917, in Davie County, Mrs. Hammer, a daughter of the late Sanford and Stella Seaford Green, was a member of Jericho Church of Christ. She retired from Crescent Electric.
Her first husband, Carl Anderson, and her second husband, Glenn L. Hammer, preceded her in death.
Survivors include brother Carl Green, Mocksville; and sisters Margaret Powell and Peggy Brown, both of Mocksville.

Iris Bailey Hughes
GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Saturday for Iris Bailey Hughes, 73, formerly of Granite Quarry, who died Monday (March 4, 2002) at Genesis ElderCare of Salisbury.
Born May 10, 1928, in Rowan County, Mrs. Hughes was a daughter of the late Vernon A. and Flora Barber Bailey. She was educated in the Salisbury schools.
The operator of Kiddyland Nursery for nine years and later was employed by Macanal Mills and Pauline Knitting before retiring. She attended First Church of Christ Scientist, Salisbury.
Her husband, Edwin Parker Hughes Jr., died Nov. 5, 1998.
Survivors include sons Russell “Rusty” Hughes, Lexington, and Allen Bailey Hughes, Salisbury; brother Jerry A. Bailey, Garden Ridge, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, Salisbury, conducted by Chris Shoaf of First Church of Christ, Scientist. The body will be cremated.

Joe Nathaniel Jackson, 57, 1100 W. Fisher St., died Wednesday (March 6, 2002) at his home.

Richard R. Morgan
The funeral will be Friday for Richard Raymond Morgan, 60, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (March 5, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born April 3, 1941, in Salisbury, Mr. Morgan was a son of Bertie Herion Morgan, Salisbury, and the late Raymond Morgan. He was educated in the Salisbury schools and was a graduate of Boyden High School.
A carpenter, he retired from Goodman Lumber Co. He was a member and usher at Haven Lutheran Church and a member of the Lutheran Men.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Jean Myrick Morgan, whom he married Oct. 1, 1967; daughters Rebecca M. Law, Wake Forest, and Teresa M.
Bews, Greensboro; and brother Mike E. Morgan, Nashville, Tenn.

Vann Ludwig Poplin
CLEVELAND —The Rev. Vann Ludwig Poplin, 68, Amity Hill Road, died Tuesday (March 5, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Dec. 17, 1933, in Stanly County, Mr. Poplin was a son of the late Daniel Webster and Anna Pine Hooks Poplin. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
A retired employee of PPG, he was a member of Freedom Independent Baptist Church. He had a radio ministry and was choir director and musician at his church.
Survivors include wife of 43 years Jeanette Beck Poplin; daughters Deborah P. Edwards, Cleveland, and Teressa P.
Tysinger, Lexington; brother J.D. Poplin, Albemarle; sisters Mildred Poplin Hinson, Margaret P. Dick and Elizabeth P.
