Louvenia Blackwell
Louvenia Brown Blackwell, 73, 527 N. Boundry St., died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born on June 22, 1928, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Mamie Yarbrough and James Brown.
Educated in the Rowan County schools, she was a homemaker. She was a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church, East Spencer, where she was a member of the senior choir and nurses’ guild.
A son, J.C. Torrence, died April 7, 1988.
Survivors include: her husband, Clinton Blackwell, of the home; four sons, Robert Brown, Baltimore, Gillie O. Torrence and John Blackwell Sr., both of Salisbury, and Clinton Lee Blackwell, Oklahoma City, Okla.; daughters, Rose Mary Propst, East Spencer; two brothers, James A. Brown, Wicomico Church, Va. and Willie F. Brown, Baltimore, Md.; 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Services: 2:30 p.m. Monday, Shady Grove Baptist Church, Alonza Williams, officiating; burial in the church cemetery.
Visitation: 2-2:30 p.m. Monday, Shady Grove Baptist Church.

Virginia T. Blalock
KANNAPOLIS — Virginia Teal Blalock, 86, Kannapolis, formerly of Walnut Cove, died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002)at Transitional Health Services.
Born Jan. 1, 1916, in McColl, S.C., Mrs. Blalock was a daughter of the late Edmund P. and Idell Bryant Teal. She was a member of Palmyra United Methodist Church, Walnut Cove. For the past eight years, she attended Midway United Methodist Church.
Her husband, D. Clifton Blalock, died in 1983.
Survivors include daughter Bobbie S. Beam, Kannapolis; brother Clinton Teal, Kannapolis; sister Annie Hickman, Folly Beach, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 4 p.m. today, Palmyra United Methodist Church cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Don Nobblitt.

Maxine S. Howell
Maxine S. Howell, 86, of Dalton, Ga., formerly of Oakboro, died Friday (March 1, 2002). She was the youngest child of the late Marshall and Sue Thomas Swanner of Albemarle.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Mineral Springs Baptist Church, Oakboro. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Oakboro Cemetery.

Stahle Linn Jr.
The funeral will be Sunday for Stahle Linn Jr., 74, Salisbury, who died Friday (March 1, 2002) at Carillon Assisted Living after a lengthy illness.
Born Oct. 14, 1927, in Salisbury, Mr. Linn was a son of the late Stahle and Charlotte McNair Brown Linn.
He attended Boyden High School and Woodbury Forest School. He received his undergraduate and law degrees at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
He returned to Salisbury and joined his father in the practice of law in the Linn and Linn law firm. A member and elder of First Presbyterian Church, he was a trustee of Catawba College.
He was also a member of the Rotary Club and Sons of the American Revolution.
Survivors include wife Jo White Linn; son Stahle Linn III, Scaly Mountain; daughter Sarah Arrington, Charlotte; and sister Mary An Linn Woodson, Salisbury.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Sunday, Chestnut Hill Cemetery, conducted by Dr. Robert M. Lewis, pastor, and the Rev. Randal V. Kirby, associate pastor, First Presbyterian Church.

Astor ‘Tom’ Lynn
The funeral will be Monday for Astor Thompson “Tom” Lynn, 87, Salisbury, who died Thursday (Feb. 28, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 4, 1914, in Lincolnton, Mr. Lynn, a son of the late George Henry and Samantha Allran Ritchie Lynn, was educated in the Lincoln County schools.
A member of the Cartex family of Carlton Yarn Mills for over 40 years, he was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
His wife, Daisy Pauline Nesbitt Lynn, died Dec. 27, 1991.
Survivors include son Jerry L. Lynn, Raleigh; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. William Ragsdale, pastor, Main Street United Methodist Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Frances Overcash
CHINA GROVE — Frances Hooks Overcash, 75, 370 Sylvester Road, died Friday (March 1, 2002) at Liberty Commons.
Born Oct. 7, 1926, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Mary Weddington Hooks and Martin Lewis Hooks.
She was educated in the Rowan County Schools and was a nursing assistant.
Mrs. Overcash was of the Baptist faith.
Her husband, Clarence E. Overcash, died Feb. 8, 1981.
Survivors include: two sons, Tony Hooks of Kannapolis and Terry Overcash of China Grove; a daughter, Barbara Phelps, of China Grove; two brothers, Therman Hooks and James D. Hooks, both of China Grove; a sister Betty Plummer, China Grove; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services: 3 p.m. Sunday, Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove, with the Rev. Gene Aldridge. Burial at West Lawn Memorial Park.
