The victims of a case of vandalism and breaking and entering in Gold Hill have decided not to press charges after sheriff’s deputies identified the suspects.
“The suspects were acquaintances of the Hedricks and the Hedricks withdrew their complaint,” said Sheriff George Wilhelm.
Darius and Nina Hedrick, owners of Mauney’s Store and Museum and E.H. Montgomery Country Store, found more than $1,500 worth of damage to their businesses Wednesday.
Someone had broken windows and locks and kicked in doors at Mauney’s and E.H. Montgomery and took $30.20 worth of beer and lollipops from Miss Ruby’s, a restaurant also owned by the Hedricks.
The Hedricks spurred the development in the 18th-century mining village. Developers moved old buildings from other county sites and restored them on the site on St. Stephens Church Road, near U.S. Highway 52.
Despite the victims’ decision not to press charges, deputies will talk to the district attorney about the case, Wilhelm said.
“Because it’s a felony, the state has to decline prosecution,”Wilhelm said.
