KANNAPOLIS — Annie Randolph Trivette Bailey, 91, 784 Natalie Drive, Fort Worth, Texas, formerly of Kannapolis, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) in Texas.
She was born May 15, 1910, in Heaton to the late Roscoe and Etta Guinn Trivette
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil E. Bailey.
Survivors include daughter Jean B. Karriker, Fort Worth, Texas; sister Martha Hodges, Kannapolis; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Carolina Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. Donald Karriker.

James Nelson Bell
SPENCER — James Nelson Bell, 81, 511 Third St., died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after three days of serious illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1921, in Franklin, Mr. Bell, a son of the late Delmar Bell and Ellen Litaker Bell Gay, attended the Rowan County schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Retired from Cone Mills, he was a member of Boxwood Baptist Church, Mocksville.
Survivors include fiancee Dorothy Poag Tenor, of the home.

CLEVELAND — David Madison Hambright, 30, Cleveland, died Sunday (Jan. 27, 2002).
Born Oct. 24, 1971, in Rowan County, Mr. Hambright was a son of the late Linda Gilbert Brown. He was employed by Freightliner.
Survivors include wife Michele Alexander Hambright; children Madison and Hannah Hambright, both of the home; stepfather Richard Brown, Cleveland; and brother Randy Hambright, Cleveland.

Cicero ‘C.K.’ Holmes
Cicero Korah “C.K.” Holmes, 96, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 27, 1905, in Southmont, he was the son of the late Eugene and Mae Cornelia Miller Holmes.
He received his B.A. degree from Lenior-Rhyne College in 1928.
He joined the Army at the age of 39 and served from March 1942, to November 1946, serving in the Asiatic and South Pacific Theatre. He received four combat bronze stars. He served 212 years overseas with the 6th Military Battalion in the medical and surgical technician field hospitals.
He then went to work for the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., where he worked as a medical laboratory technician for nine years.
He then worked for the VA Hospital in Fayetteville for another 19 years until his retirement. Holmes moved to Salisbury in 1974.
Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Eunice Goodman Holmes, whom he married on Dec. 31, 1948.
Services: A private funeral service will be held for Mr. Holmes.

John ‘Bob’ Kepley
John Robert “Bob” Kepley, 75, Roan Mountain, Tenn., formerly of Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at Sycamore Shoals Hospital, Elizabethton, Tenn.
Born Sept. 8, 1926, in Salisbury, Mr. Kepley, a son of the late John Whitehead and Nova Elizabeth Wagner Kepley, was educated in the Salisbury City schools. During World War II, he served in the Civil Service in Norfolk, Va.
A former paint and body man for Bauknight and Foil Motor Co., he later was a diesel mechanic and foreman in Atlanta, Ga. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church but attended McGill Presbyterian Church, Roan Mountain, Tenn.
Survivors include wife Madge Letterman Kepley; son Thomas L. “Tom” Kepley, Virginia Beach, Va.; brothers James W. Kepley, Spencer, and Charles Hayden Kepley, Chicago, Ill.; and sister Ruth K. Parrish, Bell, Fla.

MOCKSVILLE — Jettie Mae Phelps, 74, 692 Pine Ridge Road, died Thursday (Jan. 31, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born July 7, 1927, in Davie County, Mrs. Phelps was a daughter of the late William O. and Minnie Tutterow Murphy. She was educated in the Rowan County schools and Boyden High School.
A homemaker, she retired from Davie County Extension Agency in Mocksville. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include husband John Alfred Phelps; sons Rich and Mark Phelps, both of Mocksville; sisters Lois Wooley and Pearl McDaniel, both of Salisbury; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

G. Ray Phillips
The funeral will be Friday for G. Ray Phillips, 71, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at his home. He was in declining health for three years and seriously ill for three weeks.
Born May 23, 1930, in Guilford County, Mr. Phillips was a son of the late Capus and Eugenia Soots Phillips. He attended Elon College, Elon, and the Graphic Arts School in Nashville,Tenn.
A veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart, he served with the 40th Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Employed by the Daily Independent in Kannapolis for 20 years, he retired in 1995 after 20 years with the Salisbury Post. He attended Franklin Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Sadie Hill Phillips, whom he married Aug. 29, 1958; sons Greg Phillips, of the home, and Gary Phillips, Salisbury; and one granddaughter.

Richard Haynes Sims
The funeral will be Friday for Richard Haynes Sims, 46, 4425 Cauble Road, who died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 13, 1955, in Salisbury, Mr. Sims, a son of Haynes and Edith Wilson Sims of Spencer, was educated in the Rowan County schools. He graduated from North Rowan High School in 1973 and attended Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Formerly employed by Lesco Restoration, Spartanburg, S.C., he was associated with Sims Marine, Spencer. A volunteer with Spencer Fire Department for 20 years, he was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
Also a member of Spencer Jaycees, he received the Distinguished Service Award. He was on the Rowan County Jaycees Fair Board and was a former member of Spencer Moose Lodge.
Survivors, in addition to his parents, include wife Carol Hunsucker Sims, whom he married May 1, 1976; daughters Carrie Sims, San Diego, Calif., and Shannon and Brooke Sims, both of Charlotte; and sisters Pat Frick, Salisbury, and Crystal Threadgill, Durham.
Services: Graveside, 3 p.m. Friday, Rowan Memorial Park, conducted by the Rev. William Currie, pastor, New Hope United Methodist Church, Winston-Salem. Entombment at Rowan Memorial Park Mausoleum.
