SPENCER — James Nelson Bell, 80, 511 Third St., died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, after a period of declining health.

Oscar L. Hollifield
FAITH — The funeral will be Thursday for Oscar Lee Hollifield, 79, Faith, who died Monday (Jan. 28, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born May 15, 1922, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Hollifield, a son of the late Oscar Hoyle and Ethel Barger Hollifield, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a charter member of Faith American Legion Post 327.
A mechanic for area Chevrolet dealerships, he was an active member and elder of Shiloh United Church of Christ and was former member of Faith Jaycees.
Survivors include wife Edith McCombs Hollifield, whom he married July 9, 1948; son Gregory A. Hollifield, Salisbury; and two stepgrandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m.Thursday, Shiloh United Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Lawrence Bolick. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 10-10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Martha Gibbs Jones
FAITH — Martha Jane Gibbs Jones, 97, Faith, formerly of Lake Toxaway, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center,Salisbury.
Born Aug. 29, 1904, in Yancey County, Mrs. Jones, a daughter of the late John Avery and Elizabeth Westall Gibbs, was educated in the Yancey County schools.
She was a homemaker and a member of Selica United Methodist Church, Brevard.
She was preceded in death by her husband,Winfred Lee “Winnie” Jones, and a son, William A. “Bill” Jones.
Survivors include sons Winfred L. Jones Jr., Charleston, S.C., Jack D. Jones, Kannapolis, Morris R. Jones, Salisbury, and Clyde C., Joe M. and Charles L. Jones, all of Brevard; daughters Ruby Powell and Dixie Jordan, both of Salisbury; brother Paul Gibbs, Marion; sister Mildred Seagle, Marion; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Selica United Methodist Church, Brevard, conducted by the Rev. Thomas Lee Gibbs and the Rev. John Blalock. Burial, Tabernacle Methodist Church cemetery, Black Mountain.

HIGH POINT — David Curtis Martin, 81, 2511-D Ambassador Court, died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at W.G. “Bill”Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury, after 18 months of declining health.
Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Thursday, U.S. National Cemetery, Government Road, Salisbury. Military honors by Rowan County Veterans Council.

Robert Lee Menius
The funeral will be Thursday for Robert Lee Menius, 77, 1015 Old Cress Road, who died Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Dec. 8, 1924, in Salisbury, Mr. Menius, a son of the late Charlie Robert and Mamie Lee Safrit Menius, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
He retired as a security guard at W.C. “Bill” Hefner VA Medical Center. During the 1950s, he was a deputy sheriff in Rowan County. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
A grandchild preceded him in death in 1969.
Survivors include wife of 56 years Hazel Freeze Menius; son Alan Menius, Salisbury; daughter Bobbie Earnhardt, Salisbury; brother Carl Elbert Menius, Rockwell; sister Evelyn Menius Corriher, China Grove; six other grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Thursday for Ray Donald Smith, Granite Quarry, who died Sunday (Jan. 27, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.
Born Sept. 26, 1928, in Rowan County, Mr. Smith, a son of the late Lee and Rosa Hatley Smith, was educated at Rockwell School.
He retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Plant 1 after 49 years and was a member of Lyerly Memorial United Church of Christ, Rockwell.
Survivors include wife Margaret Pickler Smith, whom he married Dec. 22, 1945; daughters Kaye S. Honbarrier and Ann S. Ciaramello, both of Granite Quarry; brother Ralph Smith, Kannapolis; and six grandchildren.
