CHARLOTTE — Pfeiffer’s up-and-down men’s basketball season took another upswing on Monday night, as the Falcons upset CVAC rivalQueens 87-77.
Tyree Harris led Pfeiffer with 20 points, while Rico Grier, a Harding High star who was playing back in his hometown, added 19.
Pfeiffer shot 51.5 percent in the second half to hold off the Royals at Ovens Gym.
“We got contributions from 11 people,” Pfeiffer coach Dave Davis said. “It was a terrific win for us because we have struggled on the road and this is the most hostile environment we’ve played in.”
Pfeiffer’s women also got a big win, knocking off the Royals 65-62 behind four 3-pointers and 21 points by Shannon Reid. Emily Goad came off the bench for 16 points.
The game featured a battle of sisters with Pfeiffer’s Amanda Joplin (three points, five rebounds) on the winning team and Kellie Joplin (10 points, nine rebounds) on the losing side.
