Pearle Louise Barringer, 230 Rattlesnake St., Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 21, 1942, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Roxie Mae Vanhoy and Allen Monroe
Barringer. She retired as a seamstress from Rags of Rockwell.
Survivors include brother William Allen Barringer, Gold Hill; and sister Brenda
B.Trexler, Salisbury.

Lemmie Jane Burris
ALBEMARLE — Lemmie Jane Burris Burris, 95, 24792 N.C. 24/27 Highway, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at Stanley Memorial Hospital.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Oakboro. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of daughter Marie Smith, 33531 Mann Road.
Thelma V. Caraway
KANNAPOLIS — Thelma V. Absher Caraway, 53, of 505 Cook St., died Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center.
Born August 8, 1948 in Wilkes County, she worked for the Family Dollar Store’s, where she moved from cashier to become store manager.
Survivors include daughter, Christina Michelle Caraway, of the home; brothers Wade
Absher, Paul Absher and Richard Absher, all of Kannapolis, Ralph Absher of Salisbury,
BillAbsher, North Wilkesboro and Roy Absher, Laurel Springs; and mother Carry Bell Roberts
Absher, of Kannapolis.
A memorial service will take place at a later date.
William ‘Bill’ Dunham
SPENCER — William “Bill”Clarkson Dunham, 82, formerly of Heilig Road, Salisbury, died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2002) at Genesis Elder Care after being seriously ill for two months.
Born Oct. 28, 1919, in Rowan County, he was the son of the late Gardner E. and Ruth Lentz Dunham. He was educated in the Rowan County Schools.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy and Air Force, he served during World War II and the Korean War. He retired after 21 years with the U.S. Air Force.
He was a member of Maranatha Bible Church and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Frick Dunham, whom he married on Dec. 6, 1975; step-son Joseph “Joe”Jones, Charlotte; step-daughters Judith Powell, Spencer, and Susan
Trexler, Concord; brother Gardner E. Dunham Jr., Salisbury; sister Sue Benfield, Salisbury; seven step-grandchildren; and 12 step-great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Maranatha Bible Church, conducted by the Rev. Robert
Freitas, church pastor. Burial will be at Salisbury National Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Council.
Visitation: 3:30 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Lyerly Funeral Home. Other times, the family will be at the residence.

Amanda P. Hill
LEXINGTON — Amanda Dawn Pickett Hill, 24, of Thomasville, formerly of East Tenth Street, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2002) at High Point Regional Hospital from injuries in an auto accident.
Born July 8, 1977, in Davidson County, Mrs. Hill was a daughter of Larry Craig Picket and stepmother Jean Picket, Welcome, and Linda Drawdy Pickett, Lexington.
She attended North Davidson Senior High School and worked for Thomasville Furniture Plant D.
In addition to her parents, survivors include husband Michael Hill, Welcome; daughters Allisha Nicole Hill and Cassandra Dawn Hill, both of Linwood; and brother Timothy Craig Pickett, Southmont.

Clifford Mitchell
KANNAPOLIS — Clifford Odanies Mitchell, 70, 919 Grace Ave., died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2002) at his home after a serious illness of three months.
Born April 20, 1931, in Comer, Ga., Mr. Mitchell was a son of the late James Clifford and Bertha Lively Mitchell.
He retired after 20 years with the U.S. Army as S.Sgt. E6 and later retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Plant 4, after 22 years in the electrical shop.
A member of the Church of God of the Bible, he served as Sunday school superintendent for 25 years and as church clerk. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Beaver Pittman American Legion Post 115.
His wife, Betty Clodfelter Mitchell, died May 19, 1998.
Survivors include daughters Sue Cameron, Seattle, Wash., Janice Fowler Fox, Landis, and Diane Fowler
Bost, Kannapolis; son Danny Ray Flower, Kannapolis; sister Evelyn Dudley, Lake Norman; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Jack Tipton
CONCORD — Jack Wilbur Tipton, 67, of Concord, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at his home. He had been in declining health for several months.
Born May 25, 1934, in Knoxville, Tenn., Mr. Tipton was a son of the late John Clayton and Georgia Ethel Moody Tipton.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee, he was a U.S. Army veteran and retired customer service representative for Fieldcrest Cannon Mills.
Survivors include wife Bernice Doane Tipton; daughters Michele Sheppard, Concord, and Mitzi
Sheeks, China Grove; son Bruce Tipton, Kannapolis; sisters Barbara Ward and Betty White, both of Knoxville, Tenn., and Sylvia
Routh, Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother Ronnie Tipton, Knoxville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren.
