James W. Baity

MOCKSVILLE — James W. Baity, 74, N.C. Highway 801 N., died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at his home.

Eaton Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Faye E. Cauble

The funeral will be Saturday for Faye Earnheart Cauble, 93, Vero Beach,Fla., formerly of Salisbury, who died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Tandem Health Care, Vero Beach,Fla.

Born April 19, 1908, in Salisbury, Mrs. Cauble was a daughter of the late Hilbert F. and Fannie Jones Earnheart. She was educated in the Salisbury and Mooresville schools.

A homemaker, she was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Port Charlotte, Fla., and a former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Salisbury.

Her husband, MarvinRichard Cauble, died March 4, 1970, and a son, Richard Cauble, died Nov. 22, 2001.

Survivors include daughter Beverly Louise Cauble Holland, Santee, Calif.; brother Frank J. Earnheart, Thomasville; sisters Ruth Barefoot, Greensboro, and Arietta Kilby, Charlotte; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Summersett Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Carl Sachtleben, senior pastor, St.John’s Lutheran Church. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

William C. Dunham

SPENCER — William C. Dunham, 82, Spencer, died Thursday (Jan. 24, 2002) at Genesis Eldercare, Salisbury.

Lyerly Funeral Home, Salisbury, is in charge.

 

Catherine Henderson

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for Catherine Louise Steele Henderson, 78, 1520 Shuping Mills Road, who died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, after five days of serious illness.

Born Nov. 30, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Henderson, a daughter of the late Hazel and Pauline Steele, was educated in the Cabarrus County schools. She was a retired domestic worker.

A member of Crown In Glory Lutheran Church, she was involved with the food and building ministries, the senior citizens, choir, Adult Sunday School Class and Lutheran Women Missionary League.

There are no immediate survivors.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Crown In Glory Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Donald Anthony. Burial, Mount Zion Lutheran Church cemetery.

Visitation: 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Howard E. Holshouser

Former Salisbury resident Howard Eugene Holshouser, 93, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at Triad United Methodist Home, Winston-Salem, after several months of declining health.

Born Dec. 22, 1908, in Rowan County, Mr. Holshouser, a son of the late Lewis Monroe and Mary C. Foutz Holshouser, was educated in the Rowan County schools and Lenoir-Rhyne College,Hickory.

Retired from the railway postal service, he was a member of Milford Hills United Methodist Church and the church choir.

His wife, Doris Brandon Holshouser, died May 24, 1999.

Survivors include son Howard E. Holshouser Jr., Efland; daughter Toni H. Dew, Bermuda Run; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Milford Hills United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Neill Shaw. Burial, Rowan Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Summersett Funeral Home.

Harold Lowry

ROCKWELL — The funeral will be Saturday for Harold Lowry, 71, Rockwell, who died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Oct. 23, 1930, in Roberson County, Mr. Lowry was a son of Emma Oxendine Lowry Gray, Salisbury, and the late Governor Lowry. He was educated in the Roberson County schools.

Vice president of Sunshine Roofing, he had earlier worked as a carpenter doing construction work. He was a member of Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall, Old Concord Road Congregation.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include wife Margaret A. Lowry; sons Floyd, Robert and Ray Lowry, all of Faith, Frank Lowry, Seagrove, Larry Lowry, Pasadena, Md., Chuck Lowry, Faith, and Gary Lowry, Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, Old Concord Road Congregation, conducted by Bill Fulcher. The body will be cremated.

Visitation: At the church after the service.

Mark ‘Scooter’ Lynch

KANNAPOLIS — Mark Lee “Scooter”Lynch, 34, 715 Brumley St., died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002).

Born Nov. 19, 1967, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Lynch was a son of Steve Lynch and Peggy Greene Lynch, both of Kannapolis. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and a member of Homestead Baptist Church.

Survivors, in addition to his parents, include stepmother Peggy Baucom Lynch, Kannapolis; sister Mishelle Mullis, Kannapolis; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ken Moss and Ruth Johnson, all of Kannapolis; and great-grandmother Bessie Burke, Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Lady’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Terry Brown and the Rev. Ronnie Cooper. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6:30-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Mishelle Mullis, 8965 Abby Lane.

Utha R. Mahatha

KANNAPOLIS — Utha Richardson Mahatha, 64, 1501 Kingston Drive, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, from an extended illness.

Born June 7, 1937, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Mahatha was a daughter of the late Henry Roland and Hattie Blount Richardson. She was a homemaker and a former private duty nurse at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital, now NorthEast Medical Center.

A member of the Church of God of Prophecy, she was on the usher board and sang in the choir. She was involved with Piedmont Peace Project.

Survivors include husband Bobby Ray Richardson; daughters Terpetha Mahatha, of the home, and Yolanda Mahatha, Concord; sons Ronald Mahatha, Kannapolis, and Donald Mahatha, Salisbury; sisters Ethel Morris, Tallahassee, Fla., Martha Elizabeth Richardson, Kannapolis, and Odessa Jones, Lancaster, S.C.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Church of God of Prophecy, conducted by Bishop J.D. Blackmon. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park, Concord.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the church. At other times, the family will be at the home on Kingston Drive.

Bessie C. Morrison

CHINA GROVE — Bessie Connor Morrison, 81, 1220 Flat Rock Road, died Saturday (Jan. 19, 2002) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Born June 27, 1920, in Charlotte, Mrs. Morrison was a daughter of the late Sylvester and Addie Connor. She was a homemaker and a member of Sills Creek AMEZion Church.

Survivors include husband Henry M. Morrison; and sons Benny R. Connor, Landis, J.D. Melvin Connor, Rockwell, and Ralph Truman Connor, Palm Bay, Fla.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sills Creek AMEZion Church. Burial at church cemetery on Bradshaw Road.

Rosa Blalock Mullis

NEW LONDON — Rosa Lee Blalock Mullis, 69, 38021 MountainCreek Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born June 11, 1932, in Davidson County, Mrs. Mullis was a daughter of the late George and Genie Baker Blalock. She was a retired Avon representative and a member of Palestine United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Brice Mullis; son, Hugh Brice Mullis Jr.; and daughter, Barbara Gail Mullis.

Survivors include daughters Patsy Little, Marshville, Carolyn Dunn, New London, and Mary Ann Beck, Lisa Fulcher and Margaret Helms, all of Albemarle; sister Betty Almond, Albemarle; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Palestine United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. A. Boyd Joyce. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Stanly Funeral Home.

 

‘Polly’ Childers Paige

KANNAPOLIS — Pauline “Polly” Childers Paige, 88, formerly of 526 W. Eighth St., died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at the home of granddaughter Jaymie Barrier, with whom she lived for the past five years.

Born July 27, 1913, in Alexander County, Mrs. Paige, a daughter of the late Parks Leroy and Nola Barnes Childers, was a caregiver for her parents and a sister. She retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 sewing department after 45 years.

A longtime member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church, she had been active in the nursery for 35 years. She was also active with the Ruth Sunday School Class.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Cortis John Paige.

Additional survivors include daughter Brenda Paige Shue, Kannapolis; son Steve M. Paige, Lincolnton; sister Mozelle Daniel,Kannapolis; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, North Kannapolis Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. David Myers, the Rev. Coy Privette and the Rev. Ray Pennell. The body will be placed in the church at 1. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Jaymie Barrier, 1505 Derbyshire Road.

Jackson Dallas Powell, 85, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at Magnolia Gardens, Spencer.

Terrence Ross

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Terrence Ross, father of Deborah Ross-Turnbull, Salisbury, N.C., died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at Brookdale Hospital from injuries sustained in a Dec. 21, 2001, automobile accident.

Services: 9 a.m. Friday, John’s Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Family and friends in Salisbury, N.C., will be at the home of Jessie Horne, 214 S. Clay St.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Gracie S. Sink

LEXINGTON — Gracie Sowers Sink, 79, Partridge Lane, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at Arbor Acres Triad United Methodist Home, Winston-Salem, after nine years of declining health.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Friday, Forest Hill Memorial Park.

LEXINGTON — Bobby Lee Steed, 71, Allred Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at Brian Center Nursing Home after several months of declining health.

MOORESVILLE — Ralph Moore Upright, 90, Crown Colony, died Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2002) at Crown Colony.

Born Jan. 19, 1912, in Rowan County, Mr. Upright was a son of the late James Crawford and Clarissa Smith Upright. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

A member of Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, China Grove, he retired from Burlington Industries after 30 years.

His wife, Lois Elizabeth Henderson Upright, preceded him in death.

Survivors include son Gary Upright, China Grove; and six grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. G. Wayne Sipe. Burial, church cemetery.

David T. Walker

The funeral will be Friday for David T. Walker, 46, 231 D Avenue, Apt. 92, who died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at his home.

Born Feb. 24, 1955, in Rowan County, Mr.Walker was a son of Elizabeth Walker Worth of East Spencer.

He was educated in the Rowan County schools and employed at Brightmoor Nursing Home.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include stepfather Karuth Worth, East Spencer; daughter Whitney Walker, Salisbury; stepdaughter Yolanda Peck, Salisbury; brothers Karuth Worth Jr., Statesville, Marcus Edward Worth, East Spencer, and Brian Keith Worth, Salisbury; and sisters Patricia Worth, Pennsylvania, Pamela Jeanette Madison, Salisbury, and Demetric Rochelle Worth, Cleveland.
