Hurbert Rufus Chunn
MOCKSVILLE — The funeral will be Friday for Hurbert Rufus Chunn, 90, 619 Boxwood Church Road, who died Saturday (Jan. 19, 2002) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation, Salisbury, after two weeks of serious illness.
Born May 10, 1911, in Davie County, Mr. Chunn was a son of the late Cecero and Notie Smith Chunn. He was educated in the Davie County schools.
Retired from Rickus Baker, Gary, Ind., he was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and the church choir.
His wife,Lessie Oakley Chunn, died in 1978.
Survivors include sons Elder Robert Chunn, Gary, Ind., and Eugene Chunn, Salisbury; brothers Paul “Ford” and Ervin Chunn, both of Salisbury, and Thomas Young Chunn, Charlotte; sister Catherine Brawley, Mocksville; 29 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, New Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Thomas White, pastor, and son Elder Robert Chunn. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 1:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Ruby Lee Corn
Ruby Lee Corn, 74, Salisbury, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after six years of declining health.
Born March 5, 1927, in Greensboro, Mrs. Corn was a daughter of the late Levi H. and Alice Gauldin Taylor. She was educated in the Guilford County schools.
A Presbyterian, in 1989 she retired from Salisbury Pharmacy after 33 years of service.
Survivors include daughters Janet Blair, Chester, Md., and Lynda Allen, Rockwell; son Ralph Baker, Salisbury; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services: The Rev. Roy Bell will officiate at private graveside services.

‘Al’ Nance
CHARLOTTE — Robert Alfred “Al” Nance, 61, Charlotte, died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born Oct. 13, 1940, in China Grove, Mr. Nance, a son of Lorene Buncile Bradshaw Nance and the late Robert Dowd Nance, attended St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Charlotte.
He was employed by the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
Mr. Nance is survived by his mother.
Services: Graveside, 1 p.m.Thursday, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove, conducted by the Rev. David Pittman.

ROCKWELL — The funeral is Thursday for Ralph Dixon Roberts, 80, Rockwell, who died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Lee R. Rushing
KANNAPOLIS — Lee Roberson Rushing, 91, formerly of 605 Broad St., died Tuesday (Jan. 22, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after a year of declining health.
Born Jan. 2, 1911, in Anson County, Mr. Rushing was a son of the late John Franklin and Mittie Stegall Rushing.
In 1976, he retired fromCannon Mills Co. Plant 1 packing and shipping department after 42 years. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and was formerly active with a bowling league.
On Oct. 21, 1934, he married Onnie Louise Love Rushing, who died March 15, 1992.
Survivors include daughter Nancy Doss, Kannapolis; brothers Jessie Rushing, Locust, and Paul Rushing, Concord; sister Novella McLester, Concord; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services: 2 p.m. Thursday, Whitley’s Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Curtis Parker and the Rev. Raymond Davis. Burial, Carolina Memorial Park.

Nannie K. Tarleton
The funeral will be Thursday for Nannie Kluttz Tarleton, 97, Salisbury, who died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Salisbury Lutheran Home.
Born Oct. 23, 1904, in Rowan County, Mrs. Tarleton, a daughter of the late David A. and Augusta Hudson Kluttz, was educated in the Rowan County schools.
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Spencer.
Her husband, Lonnie L. Tarleton, preceded her in death.
Survivors include sons James D. Tarleton, Wellford, S.C., and Thomas E. Tarleton, Wilson; daughters Nancy S. Tarleton Riddle, Clayton, and Louise House, Granite Quarry; 17 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services: 1 p.m. Thursday, Lyerly Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. MaxMills,pastor, Trinity Baptist Church, Spencer. Burial,Rowan Memorial Park.
