Tilden ‘Tick’ A. Archie

MOORESVILLE — Tilden “Tick” Alexander Archie, 78, East Wilson Ave., died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Brian Center.

Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Iredell County, Mr. Archie was a son of the late James E. and Ollie Blackwelder Archie. He served in the U.S. Navy for 18 years. He was a retired painter.

Survivors include sisters Margaret Ratledge, Woodleaf, Peggy Brookshire, Granite Falls, Fay Nell Ratledge, Mooresville, and Elva Bass, Baltimore, Md.; and brothers Robert “Bill”, Charles “Pete” and Gary Archer, all of Mooresville.

Services: Graveside, 11 a.m. Wednesday, Glenwood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Neill Funeral Home.

 

Daphne Lanning Bruff

LEXINGTON — Daphne May Lanning Bruff, 82, Golden Age Nursing Home, formerly of Westdale Aveue, died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002).

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Piedmont Funeral Home chapel.

Visitation: 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

 

Faye E. Cauble

Faye Earnheart Cauble, 93, Sebastian,Fla., formerly of Salisbury, died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Tandem Health Care, Vero Beach, Fla.

Summersett Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Robert Cyril Duncan

CONCORD — Robert Cyril Duncan, 55, 2702 S. Ridge Ave., died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte.

Services: Graveside, 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sunset Cemetery, Kannapolis.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis. At other times the family will be at the home on South Ridge Avenue.

 

Clara Heath Harris

MOCKSVILLE — Clara Heath Harris, 84, Highway 158, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Davis Medical Center, Statesville.

Born Oct. 7, 1917, in Iredell County, Mrs. Harris was a daughter of the late Clyde C. and Sarah Ward Heath. Retired from Western Electric in layout operations, she was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Edwards.

Survivors include son Linwood Lipscomb, Mount Ulla, and James Clyde Jr., Mocksville; daughter Linda Sparks, Winston-Salem; brother Ralph Heath, Leland, 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday,Davie Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by a son-in-law, the Rev. Charles Sparks. Burial, Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home of son Linwood Lipscomb, 3830 Highway 158.

Hazel Austin Helms

RICHFIELD — Hazel Austin Helms, 76, 24572 Frick Road, died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Britthaven of Piedmont, Albemarle.

Born April 5, 1925, in Lewis County, Tenn., Mrs. Helms, a daughter of the late Claude Thomas and Lina Josephine Gladden Melton, was a member of Albemarle Church of Christ. She retired from Carolina Pad and Paper Co. after 25 years.

She was preceded in death by husbands Harden Leroy Austin, Glen Baker and Willie “Joe” Helms.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Albemarle Church of Christ, conducted by the Rev. Tim Pinkston.

Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. At other times the family will be at the home of daughter Chris Mauldin, 24572 Frick Road.

Catherine Henderson

ROCKWELL — Catherine Steele Henderson, 78, 1520 Shuping Mills Road, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation,Salisbury, after five days of serious illness.

Cleonia Tucker Holt

RICHFIELD — Cleonia Ellen Tucker Holt, 75, 44343 Highway 49 South, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Britthaven of Piedmont.

Born Aug. 21, 1926, in Stanly County, Mrs. Holt was a daughter of the late Clarence and Myrtle Smith Tucker. She retired as a shipping clerk from Richfield Manufacturing Co.

Survivors include husband William Clinton Holt; son Johnny C. Furr, Kannapolis; stepson William Clinton Holt Jr., Salisbury; stepdaughter Patty Hunt, Troy; brother Curtis Tucker, Stanfield; and one grandson.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Matton’s Grove United Methodist Church, Gold Hill. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: At the home in Richfield.

Gerald Wayne Linton

KANNAPOLIS — Gerald Wayne Linton, 44, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002).

Born in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mr. Linton was a son of Iona Mae Linton, Hartsville, S.C., and the late George Linton. He was a graduate of Davidson County Community College and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors, in addition to his mother, include sisters Billie Amerson, Kannapolis, and Helen Pittman and Charlotte Linton, both of HIgh Point; and brothers David Linton, Thomasville, and Luther and George Linton, both of Kannapolis.

Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday, Wilkes Chapel United Methodist Church, near Hartsville, S.C., conducted by the Rev. Ronnie Caulder and the Rev. Edwin Luther. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Norton Funeral Home, Hartsville.

 

Ruth B. Loflin

Ruth Barnhardt Loflin, originally from Salisbury, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002)after a brief illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Loflin, who was also formerly of Salisbury.

Survivors include daughters Kay Loflin Hubbuch and Ann Loflin Daniel, both of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

On Jan. 20, Dr. David Harr officiated at a private graveside service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens, Chattanooga, Tenn.

Chattanooga Funeral Home was in charge.

 

Annie Kirk Maske

ALBEMARLE Annie Mae Kirk Maske, 70, 1533 Inger St., died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Britthaven-Piedmont Nursing Center.

Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday, Saints Delight Church. Burial, Mount Zion Church cemetery.

Visitation: 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Helen C. Messick

MOCKSVILLE — Helen Campbell Messick, 66, Bethel Church Road, died Sunday (Jan. 20, 2002) at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

Born in Iredell County, Mrs. Messick, a daughter of the late Muriel Barnhardt and James W. Campbell, was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Salisbury.

She retired from Cone Mills, Salisbury.

A stepson Danny Messick, preceded her in death.

Survivors include husband of 36 years Charlie Messick; daughters Charlotte Corriher, Granite Quarry, and Dawn Campbell, Salisbury; stepdaughter Margie Burton, Advance; other stepson James Messick, Salisbury; sisters Nanny Peacock, Cleveland, and Pat Kluttz, Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday,Westside Baptist Church, Salisbury, conducted by the Rev.Joel Hiatt. Burial, Gay’s Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Davie Funeral Service.

‘Gene’ H. Morris

KANNAPOLIS — Imogene Gene Hampton Morris, 70, 313 Pine St., died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.

Born May 14, 1931, in Madison County,Ga., Mrs. Morris was a daughter of the late Joe Boyd and Eunice Patton Hampton. In 1974, she retired due to ill health from CannonMills Co. She was a member of Kannapolis Church of God.

Survivors include husband Jerry R. Morris; daughter Donna M. Brown, China Grove; sisters Martha H. Meismer, Rockwell, and Betty H. Stirewalt,Salisbury; brothers Larry Hampton, China Grove, and Boyd L. Hampton, Baltimore, Md.; and three grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Kannapolis Church of God, conducted by the Rev. Sam Crisp and the Rev. David Jacobs. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Whitley’s Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home on Pine Street.

Bessie C. Morrison

MOORESVILLE — Bessie Connor Morrison, 81, Mooresville, died Saturday (Jan. 19, 2002) at Presbyterian Hospital,Charlotte.

Ralph Dixon Roberts

ROCKWELL — The funeral is Friday for Ralph Dixon Roberts, 80, Rockwell, who died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at Hefner VA Medical Center, Salisbury.

Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Roberts was a son of the late John Werts Roberts and Carrie Redmon Roberts Shuping. He was a graduate of J.W. Cannon High School and North Carolina State University.

He owned and operated Ralph D. Roberts Plumbing and Heating Co., Raleigh. A Lutheran, he was a member of Rockwell Amvets Post 845.

His wife, Margaret Dodd Roberts, died in 1973.

Survivors include sons Ralph D. Roberts Jr., John Roberts, Greenville, Louis and Titus Roberts, Winterville; daughter Kaye Roberts, Wilmington; sister Margaret Miller, Johnson City, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services: Noon Thursday, Powles Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Maurice Staley, pastor, Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Burial, 1 p.m. Thursday, National Cemetery, Salisbury.

Visitation: None.

Nannie Tarleton

Nannie Tarleton, 96, Salisbury, died Monday (Jan. 21, 2002) at Salisbury Lutheran Nursing Home.
