James E. Benfield

MOUNT ULLA — James Ervin Benfield, 73, Sloop Road, died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002).

Born Feb. 13, 1928, in Rowan County, he was son of the late Neriah McCubbins and Alda Horton Benfield.

Mr. Benfield was a retired maintenance supervisor for Reeves Brothers Curon Division, where he worked for 23 years. After his retirement, he continued to work for the textile industry as a machinist.

Mr. Benfield served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He belonged to Knox Chapel United Methodist Church, Cleveland, where he was a trustee and heavily involved in the annual barbecue. He also was a member of the Tom Swann VFW Post 1072 and American Legion Post 66.

Survivors include his wife, Grace Calabrese Benfield; sons James “Jimmy” Ervin Benfield II, Mooresville, David Lee Benfield, Gastonia, and Christopher John Benfield, of the home; brother Kenneth Benfield, Mount Ulla; sister Mary Dennis, Hickory; three grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Knox Chapel United Methodist Church, Cleveland, conducted by the Rev. Paul Burke. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 tonight, Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville.

James Lincoln Buck

MOUNT PLEASANT — James Lincoln Buck, 89, 2640 Lentz Harness Shop Road N., died Thursday (Jan. 17, 2002) at Universal Health Care, Concord.

Daughter Suzanne Poplin lives in New London.

Services: 4 p.m. Sunday, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle, conducted by the Rev. Robert Josey, a son-in-law. Burial, Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte.

Visitation: 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the hope of daughter Suzanne Poplin, 401 Spring St., New London.

Flora Belle Crepps

MATTHEWS — Flora Belle Crepps, 96, 14400 Buckton Lane, and formerly of North East Avenue, Kannapolis, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at Presbyterian Hospital in Matthews.

Lady’s Funeral Home of Kannapolis is in charge.

 

Jerry Lee Cross

GRANITE QUARRY — The funeral will be Monday for Jerry Lee Cross, 39, 1213 S. Main St., who died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002) as a result of an automobile accident in Kannapolis.

Born Feb. 23, 1962, in Cabarrus County, Mr. Cross was a son of Gloria Thomas Cross and Carl Cross Jr.

He worked for Waffle House, Concord, and previously in the towel sewing department at Pillowtex Plant 1 for many years.

In addition to his parents, survivors include son Jeremy Lee Cross, Salisbury; brother Ricky Junior Cross, Salisbury; sister Vicky Cross Key, Rockwell; and ex-wife Lori S. Cross, Kannapolis.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Whitley’s Funeral Home, Kannapolis, conducted by the Rev. Harvey Parnell. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

 

Clyde B. Davidson

LINWOOD — Clyde Baxter Davidson, 70, 442 Clark Road, Lot 3, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at his home after several years of declining health.

The family will be at the home of daughter Tammy Hairston, 600 Liberty St., Lexington.

Noble & Kelsey Funeral Home is in charge.

 

Terry Lee Fisher

LINWOOD — Terry Lee Fisher, 59, Linwood-Southmont Road, died Thursday evening (Jan. 17, 2002).

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel.

Visitation: 10-11 a.m. Monday, Piedmont Funeral Home, Lexington.

 

Kathleen McBride

MOCKSVILLE — Kathleen Sue Johnson McBride, 78, Mock Place Apartments, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center following a period of declining health.

Born Oct. 13, 1923, in Louisburg, Mrs. McBride was a daughter of the late George Hillery and Nora McCrary Johnson.

She had retired from Laguna Sportswear, Salisbury.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. McBride, who died in 1991, and a granddaughter.

Survivors include sons Johnny R. McBride, Cooleemee, and Terry L. McBride, Taylorsville; brother Hillery Johnson, Salisbury; sisters Susie Sheets, Woodleaf, and Etta Mae Myers, Mount Airy; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.

Services: 2 p.m. Sunday, Eaton’s Funeral Home, conducted by Dr. Darrell Cox. Burial, Legion Memorial Park, Cooleemee.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Adam’s Funeral Home, Taylorsville, is in charge, with assistance from Eaton’s.

Faye D. Pickler

ALBEMARLE — Faye Drye Pickler, 66, 37281 Barnhardt Road, died at 1:24 a.m. Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center in Concord.

Survivors included a sister, Vivian Drye Sinclair, New London.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday, Welcome Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pickler, the Rev. Wayne Richardson and the Rev. Ray Moon. Burial, Palestine Cemetery.

Visitation: 7-9 p.m. Sunday, Stanly Funeral Home Inc.

Ralph D. Roberts Sr.

ROCKWELL — Ralph Dixon Roberts Sr., 80, Rockwell, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at the Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury.

Lula Bea Talbert, 101

ALBEMARLE — Lula Bea Talbert, 101, 520 Anderson Road, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2002) at her home.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Hartsell Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Paul Pickler. Burial, Laton family cemetery.

Visitation: 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and at other times at the home of nephew Willie “Bill” Talbert, 520 Anderson Road.
