Brandi Smith Chavez
The funeral will be Friday for Brandi Smith Chavez, 20, Salisbury, who died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2002) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, after a period of declining health.
Born July 28, 1981, in San Antonio, Texas, Mrs. Chavez was a daughter of Caroline Smith, Spencer. She was a graduate of Gateway Academy Home School and was studying law enforcement at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
She was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband Ricardo D. Chavez, whom she married Nov. 10, 2001; and sister Amanda Brooke Smith, Spencer.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, Oakdale Baptist Church, Spencer, conducted by the Rev. Richard A. Gross, pastor, and the Rev. Michael Koontz, minister of music at Milford Hills Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Jerry Lee Cross
Jerry Lee Cross, 39, 1213 S. Main St., died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Linn E. Graham Jr.
Funeral services were held Jan. 8, 2002 for Salisbury native Linn Everett Graham Jr., 72, Bishopville, Md., formerly of Baltimore, Md., who died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at his home.
Mr. Graham was a son of the late Linn Everett and Mabel Christy Graham. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he served overseas in Panama for 18 months.
He retired from Bethlehem Steel after 28 years and was a member of Duey Loman American Legion Post 109, Arbutus, Md.
A daughter, Cathy M. Graham, died April 24, 2001.
Survivors include wife of 51 years Rose M. Hoggard Graham; other daughters Diane Bilheimer, Linthicum, Md., and Margaret L. Graham, Greenfield, Mass.; son Linn E. Graham III, Greenfield,Mass.; sisters Louise Hannold and Margaret Faye Simmons, both of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service were held at 2 p.m. on Jan. 8 at Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville, Del. The Rev. Lewis Mitchell officiated. Burial with U.S. Air Force honors was at Zion Church Cemetery, Bishopville, Md.
Visitation was held at the funeral home from 6:30-8 p.m. on Jan. 7

Albert Lee Marlowe
KANNAPOLIS — Albert Lee Marlowe, 88, 335 Chestnut Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord.
Born Feb. 9, 1913, in Iredell County, Mr. Marlowe was a son of the late David and Sally Moore Marlowe. He retired from Cannon Mills Co. Plant 1, No. 6 weave room after 50 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He was a member of Faith Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife Mary Lee Marlowe; son Tyrone Wayne Marlowe, Kannapolis; daughter Sylvia D. Woodard, Kannapolis; sisters Faye Sigmon, Mooresville, and Bobbi Spencer, Cleveland,Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

‘Jim’ Motley Jr.
Thomas James “Jim” Motley Jr., 55, Salisbury, died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two years of declining health.
Born Sept. 15, 1946, in Rowan County, Mr. Motley was a son of Thomas James Motley, Salisbury, and the late Mary Agner Motley. He attended Rowan County schools and graduated from North Rowan High School in 1964.
Employed by KoSa for 36 years, he was a senior technical specialist. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Spencer Moose Lodge 2019, North Rowan Boosters Club and Morgan Hunt Club.
Survivors include wife Molly Poole Motley, whom he married Aug. 25, 1968; son Thomas James “Tommy” Motley III, Spencer; daughter Elizabeth Anne “Beth” Motley-Bursell, Albemarle; brother the Rev. Michael Motley, Salisbury; sister Mary Ann Motley, Salisbury; one granddaughter; and one step-grandson.

Hallie D. Owensby
KANNAPOLIS — Hallie May Davis Owensby, 82, 3095 Centergrove Road, died Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2002) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after seven months of declining health.
Born July 27, 1919, in Chesterfield County, S.C., Mrs. Owensby was a daughter of the late Weldon and Matilda Hurst Davis. She was a graduate of Chesterfield High School, Chesterfield, S.C.
Retired, she was employed for 40 years at Cannon Mills plant 1, where she worked in the sheet department. She was a seamstress and a day care assistant.
She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include daughters Sharon Wingler and Brenda Wood, both of Kannapolis; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Helen Moree Perry
NEW LONDON — Helen Henrietta Moree Perry, 75, 40181 Palmerville Road, died Wednesday (Jan. 16, 2002) at Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte.
Born May 12, 1926, in Lancaster County, S.C., Mrs. Perry was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Sadie Knight Moree. She was a dispatcher with Stroupe Security and was employed at Caskie Paper Co. for many years.
She was a member of Eastern Star and Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Covington Perry Jr.
Survivors include son Edward Carlton Perry, Monroe; daughters Patricia Guess, Mountain View, Anne Houck, Richfield, and Mary Anderson, New London; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Richard F. Sellers Jr.
SWANSBORO — The funeral will be Saturday for Richard F. Sellers Jr., 61, 120 White Swan Way, who died Monday (Jan. 14, 2002) at his home from heart failure.
Born Jan. 18, 1940, in High Point, Mr. Sellers, a son of the late Richard F. and Zula Elizabeth Holshouser Sellers, was reared in Salisbury.
He attended the University of Arizona from 1962-1964 and Catawba College, Salisbury, from 1958-1960. He earned a bachelor of science degree.
From 1958 -1960, he attended Ohio State University, where he received a master’s degree in microbiology.
A retired major from the U.S. Air Force, he was director of a drug rehabilitation program at Piedmont Correction Facility. He also worked as TASC coordinator at Day Reporting Center, New Bern.
Survivors include wife Karen Reumann Sellers, Swansboro; son Richard F. Sellers III, Swansboro; daughters Sandra Campbell, Pickens, S.C., Lori Lambert, Chesapeake, Va., and Teri Sellers, Swansboro; brother Dennis J. Sellers, Salisbury; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services: Memorial, 3 p.m. Saturday, Christiana Lutheran Church, conducted by Richard Holshouser. The body will be cremated.

Terry Dellinger Wolff
The funeral will be Saturday for Terry Dellinger Wolff, 55, Salisbury, who died Monday (Jan. 14, 2002) at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 27, 1946, in Rowan County, Ms. Wolff was a daughter of the late Edward Marvin and Alice Riley Dellinger. She was a graduate of East Rowan High School and Appalachian State University.
She was an aviation underwriter for AUA in Greensboro and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
